Flower growers and gardeners can choose - buy biohumus or start their own production of organic fertilizer.

To make a homemade vermicomposter from scrap materials is a snap. Need a desire and a set of tools.

Vermicomposter is what?

Biohumus is sold in the store for gardeners, many gardeners use fertilizer, but not everyone knows that it is a waste product of compost worms. Vermicomposter is a place where they live, in the people it is often called a worm.

The simplest design for an apartment (house) consists of 2 tanks, which are placed on each other. In the upper compartment live house worms - compost manufacturers. There should be holes along the perimeter of the walls for ventilation, on the bottom - for the drain of the liquid fraction - vermochaya.

In country houses they construct street constructions from boards., in shape they resemble a high bed. They are used only for the production of vermicompost, liquid fertilizer in the garden wooden vermocomposter not receive.

Compost worms

Ordinary earthworms living in garden soil recycle organic debris, but their productivity is low. It makes no sense to use them for the production of biohumus. On the Internet, it is not difficult to find suppliers of compost worm Eisenia fetida from California, their characteristics:

  • primary color red, tail yellow;
  • length up to 10 cm;
  • multiply quickly;
  • per day absorb food, the mass of which is ½ of their weight.

The temperature of the air and substrate in the vermicomposter should not exceed 30 ° C.

You can run prospecting worms in vermicomposter worms, they do not reproduce as actively as adults of Eisenia fetida, but have their own advantages. The European variety easily recycles shredded cardboard and sheets of coarse paper.

  • length 0.57 m;
  • width 0.39 m;
  • height 0.75 m

The kit can go 2 or 3 containers for worms. To start you need 1000 adults. One working capacity is filled with biohumus in 2-3 months. Tea is drained every week.

How to make the easiest vermicomposter

The simplest design can be made from a large barrel or canister. In the bottom of the tank cut valve to drain the liquid. In order not to damage it, put a barrel on the stand. The filter for vermochaya serves brick chips (pebbles) and river sand.

The thickness of the filtering layer of sand and crumbs is 25 cm. It is filled with humus 30 cm thick. Launch compost worms into it. To start a 200-liter barrel, you need 1,500 adults. With daily moistening of the substrate, liquid organic fertilizer quickly accumulates. In the summer, it is used for foliar fertilizing vegetables in open and protected ground, fertilizer lawn grass, flowers, fruit and berry trees and shrubs.

Vermicomposter from the barrel in winter can be kept in a heated shed or greenhouse, and in the summer in the open air. For a small amount of fertilizer, a similar design is made from 2 plastic buckets.:

  • in the bottom (collector) plunge faucet;
  • in the top over the entire area, air holes are drilled with a diameter of about 2 mm;
  • they put one into the other, so that there is a gap between the walls, put a stand on the bottom of the collector.

For the assembly will require a minimum set of tools: drill, drill.

Wormworm from the boxes

Convenient vermicomposters are made from several cheesecake boxes. Bottom is used to collect liquid bio-fertilizers, all subsequent (from 2 to 6 pieces) - to produce biohumus. Their number can be increased.

Fresh manure cannot be used as food, it overheats strongly when overheated.

Preparation of the working tray:

  • using a marker at the bottom draw a grid with cells 25 * 25 mm;
  • drill to drill holes in each node of the grid;
  • if the side walls are solid, vent holes are drilled along the top edge.

For the capacity-collector get a ball valve and cut it into the bottom. They make a stand for a vermicomposter from a bar. Saw it into 3 parts, all the parts are twisted between each corner with screws.
