Dollar tree (Zamioculcas): secrets of care for rapid growth
Zamiokulkas has the glory of a plant that brings economic prosperity, for which he gained the second, the popular name “dollar tree”. This individual differs from other decorative leafy flowers not only by its beauty, but also by rather slow growth, which can be accelerated with the help of proper care.
The most important rules of care, without which the tree does not grow
In order for the plant to reveal itself in all its glory, you should follow simple rules for care.
Pot
The main requirements for the pot is its small size. However, it should not be too narrow - this can make it difficult to transplant. You need to approach the choice with special care, as frequent replacement of the container due to the negative reaction of the “dollar tree” to transplants is extremely undesirable. Pot dimensions are calculated relative to the root system with tubers, the capacity should exceed them only by 2-3 cm. The bottom should be with large drainage holes.
Watering
Zamioculcas, by its nature, does not need to water too often. On the contrary, excessive moisture can lead to the fact that the root system starts to rot, and then to save the plant can be very difficult. The irrigation pattern varies with respect to climate change indoors.
In hot summer and during the heating season, the frequency of watering should be increased due to the rapid drying of the soil.
Also an important tool for effective and efficient irrigation is a simple wooden skewer, which is used to determine how dry the potted land is. Having added water it is made in that case when soil has dried out half.
Location
A window with a south-facing window will be a great place for this plant. The presence of sunlight contributes to the positive dynamics of its growth.
How to accelerate the growth of a dollar tree at home
By following these tips, you can help the plant grow faster.
Top dressing
It is necessary to start top dressing in April, after which it should be continued regularly 2 times a month, until the end of the summer. Since a high concentration of fertilizers can harm (burn the roots) before use, they must be diluted in water or diluted. You can use the same fertilizer as for cacti, succulents. By alternating them with organic matter, it is realistic to achieve an unplanned acceleration of growth.
One of the most important requirements for bait is the presence of a sufficient amount of nitrogen - an element that affects the growth of new stems and leaves; it also helps to ensure that the color of the plant is richer.
Lighting
It is not necessary to keep the flower in direct sunlight in the summer, as with a certain degree of probability they can cause burns on the leaves. With such a development of events, the right decision will be to create shading, which can be achieved by blinds, or a mirror film on the window. But in winter and late autumn it is recommended to place the plant closer to the sun.
Subtleties of transplantation and reproduction
In the spring, after the zamiokulkas leaves the dormant period, which includes winter and late autumn, it is recommended that it be transplanted into fresh soil. The effectiveness of this procedure will be maintained at a frequency of 1 every 2 years.
Carrying out this manipulation, it is important to avoid damage to the root system, as this can negatively affect development.
The soil should be composed of sand, combined with fertile soil. This mixture will allow to form the desired structure and provide the plant with nutrients. The bottom is lined with a layer of drainage (expanded clay) 1.5 cm thick.
Zamiokulkas can be propagated using three methods:
- a handle;
- division of the bush;
- sheet.
After creating a combination of sand and peat 1: 1, cuttings and leaf blades root in it. This is done in warm conditions, under glass or plastic wrap. Light should not be direct, but scattered.
Zamioculkas is considered one of the most noble indoor plants. However, for its cultivation and maintenance in a decent form it takes a lot of effort.
