We grow tomato seedlings for the greenhouse

How to grow tomato seedlings at home for the greenhouse, if the window sills are not limitless, the conditions of the apartment do not allow to turn around 100, and seedlings are needed?

Process start

Before you start growing seedlings, you need to determine the quantity and quality. You need to understand how much you need seedlings, and which varieties you want to prefer.

Growing seedlings of tomatoes at home should start with finding out the number. Otherwise, we may have large surpluses, (after all, the gardener is always a little and he sows “with a reserve”), and given the high cost hybrid varieties for greenhouses there is no point in throwing money away.

To calculate the required amount you need to know the area of the greenhouse and take into account that the distance between plants should be within 50 cm. Next, add a dozen just in case and thus determine the quantity.

Variety assortment

Finding out which tomato seeds are the best for greenhouses, reviews can tell, however, in this case, it is imperative to take into account the area where the greenhouse is built, especially if it is not heated.

When choosing a variety, besides the fact that tomatoes should be fruitful, tasty, transportable, the following aspects should be considered:

  • tall;
  • undersized;
  • super early and fast departing;
  • long-playing, with a long growing season.

Choosing a grade, determine the objectives. It is one thing when a tomato is grown fresh for its own consumption, then it is a lettuce tomato with excellent tasting qualities, and it is quite another when it is necessary to transport the fruit over long distances for sale. You also need to consider whether we need tomatoes for fresh consumption, or for processing into tomato products.

Early:

  • Stunted - "Sparkle", "Inkas", "Riddle", "Fifty", "Sanka", "Snow Queen";
  • Large-fruited - “Pnk Bush”, “Skif”, “Virgin Blush”;
  • Tall - “Pablo”, “Fortovy”, “President”, “Pink Spam”, “Orange Spam”;

Medium:

  • Short - “Chibli”, “Darling”, “Golden Heart”, “Nastya”;
  • Tall - "Tolstoy", "De Barao red", "De Barao pink."

Universal: "Zodiac", "Astronaut Volkov", "Pink Rice", "Pink Hart";

When deciding on a variety, do not stop at one thing, but be sure to sign your crops, it will be easier to determine your preferences.

Sowing

If the seeds are high quality and branded, then the preparation of seeds for planting completely disappears. The manufacturer has already taken care of the consumer and has treated the seeds with fungicides and pesticides, as well as with stimulants and immunomodulators. Soaking such seeds is also not recommended. Processing seeds of tomatoes before planting seedlings on their own no longer makes sense. However, if the seeds are collected independently, they should be soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate at the rate of 1 g per 1 liter of water for 2-3 hours, and then rinsed.

Whatever the greenhouse seedlings for it does not need a lot, so do not bother with the preparation of the soil mixture. In horticultural centers, you can buy soil for seedlings of tomatoes with a predetermined acidity, and prepared nutritional and mineral background.

For growing it is better to choose individual cups.Fill them with soil need only 2/3, and pour the rest of the earth as the escape grows. Growing up the plant will form additional roots from the stem and thus the area of nutrition will increase.

The filled cups are placed on the seed, slightly covered with soil and splashed abundantly from the spray gun with warm water. Everything is covered with a polyethylene film and placed in a warm place for germination.

Sowing the seed of a tomato in seedlings should be carried out 60 days before the intended time of planting it in the greenhouse. Planting of seedlings at a younger age is possible, but if the seedlings are older, it suffers a transplant painfully. Less stress gets a plant with a closed root system, which is transplanted by the method of transshipment.

Shoots

Growing conditions for tomato seedlings are determined by temperature and light conditions. For seed germination, increased humidity is necessary; we achieve this by irrigation and a temperature in the range of 23-25 C around the clock. As soon as the shoots appear, the daytime temperature can be lowered to the level 22-23 ᵒC, and the night temperature 18-20 ᵒC. If these parameters are not maintained, the seedlings will inevitably stretch. This situation can be corrected by transferring the plant to a higher pot, with soil being poured in, which is not bad in itself, since an increase in the root system will occur.

Seedlings for the greenhouse begin to grow in February and in this period of the year it is impossible to do without phyto lamps for lighting seedlings. You can buy it in the flower, seed shops, as well as in electrical goods stores. Install it according to the instructions above the plants no higher than 25 cm. If it is not possible to use a phyto lamp, pull back the crops closer to spring.

Picking

If cultivation is carried out as described above, with the seeding of the seed in an individual cup, then picks are not required. If the seeding was carried out by a group method in a single container, then when the first pair of these sheets appears, pickling tomato seedlings is carried out.

To hold the event correctly, you need to prepare individual cups in advance and fill them with soil.

Each tomato plant needs to “bite off” the lower piece of the root core system, this will allow it to pass into the fibrous one, and immediately plant in a cup, followed by watering.

The cups are installed on the lightest windowsill and continue to illuminate the phyto lamp. The temperature in the period after picking should be lowered by 2-3 degrees.

If the seedlings are pulled out

No matter how hard the grower tries, tomato seedlings at home are not always able to be stocky and elastic. Therefore, sometimes you have to go to the trick and regulate growth conditions. This can be done in several ways:

  • physical:
  • chemical.

Physical methods include lowering the temperature and increasing illumination. If the seedlings are pulled out, the night temperature should be lowered to 16-18 C, and the phyto lamp should be lowered above the plants below.

By chemical methods resorted to using the drug "Athlete". Having diluted it according to the instructions (1.5 ml per 1 l of water), the prepared solution is treated with seedlings starting from the phase of 2-3 true leaves, with an interval of 5-9 days. Next, the concentration should be increased and dilute "Athlete" 1.5 ml of 0.7 liters of water. In this case, it turns out good seedlings of tomatoes. The plant has a short internodes, thick stem, resilient, broad green foliage and acquires a compact appearance.

As soon as you stop using "Athlete" seedlings immediately begin to stretch. The drug belongs to the growth and development stimulants, so the root system also increases. Do not use the drug if a very small amount of soil is used for cultivation.

Watering and feeding

Watering seedlings should be carried out regularly and so that the earthen room was completely soaked with water.

Daily watering of seedlings does not require, the top layer of soil should dry out, but not dry completely.

Water is used thawed snow or rain. In the absence of such defend it. Water temperature should be at room temperature.

If the seedlings stretched out and became pale, then the question arises: “How do you feed tomato seedlings so that they are plump?”. In this case, universal fertilizers for seedlings will come to the rescue, having diluted them in irrigation water can improve the situation. As a rule, if used professionally prepared soil for seedlings, then fertilizing is not required.

Landing on the moon

Finding out the question “How to grow tomato seedlings at home,” novice vegetable growers invariably call for a night light to help. Of course, the moon affects the plant and animal world, but much less than sunlight and water and temperature.

When consulting with the lunar calendar, soberly assess the situation, if there is a need to water the plant, do not look at the dates of the calendar, but water the tomatoes.

The lunar calendar advises all work with plants that bear fruit above the ground on a growing moon in fertile signs, but experienced gardeners advise timely sowing, diving, feeding, and watering regularly, based on the agrotechnical requirements of the vegetation phase of the plant. Adhering to these simple requirements, you can grow high-quality seedlings and get an excellent harvest of tomatoes.
