When to plant castor oil plant for seedlings according to the lunar calendar in 2018

28.03.2018 Castor oil

Castor oil plant is an annual ornamental plant. Purpose: planted to create the original look of the flower garden. Flower culture was introduced from Africa. Castor oil is very thermophilic, does not tolerate a sharp decrease in temperature.

To grow a plant in Russia, it must first be planted in seedlings, and then only transplanted into the open ground.

Varieties of castor oil

Castor oil belongs to the family of euphorbiaceae. The plant is poisonous. In Russia, several varieties of exotic flower are cultivated;

  1. "Zanzibar" is a stunted plant, height 1.5-2 meters. Leaves purple with a red tint.
  2. "Gibson" grows 3-4 meters, the leaves are painted a metallic red color.
  3. "Cambodian" reaches 6 meters in height. Leaves and stems are painted almost black.
  4. "Impala" grows 2-3 meters, the leaves are painted in golden brown (bronze).
  5. "Northern palm" grows 2-4 meters, the leaves are dark green. A flower plant is popular in Altai and Zauralie.
  6. "Cossack" has red stems and green leaves, a very popular variety among gardeners.

Growing castor seedlings

Flower culture does not withstand sudden changes in temperature conditions, so first it is grown in seedlings. Castor bean care is minimal.

  1. The plant perfectly develops in nutritious chernozem. The soil must necessarily be loose, fertilized.
  2. Exotic culture requires creating an optimal climate for growth. Air temperature should be at least + 22-25 degrees, air humidity 60-70%. It is difficult to maintain humidity at such a high level in the house, so you need to constantly spray plants from the spray gun.
  3. The castor seeds are planted in separate pots, so that later it is convenient to transplant into open soil. To increase germination, they are soaked in a growth stimulator (Epin, Zircon).

Castor season

So that the plants have time to grow stronger before transplanting into the open ground, I begin to plant seeds in March. The ideal time for sowing castor bean is April. The table below shows the favorable days for planting seeds of flower crops for 2018.

Castor bean planting by region

Depending on the region where you will grow castor oil, the time for planting seedlings in open ground depends. When is it necessary to plant an exotic plant? Consider the points of a country with completely different climatic conditions;

  1. Siberia. The harsh climate does not imply early planting in open ground. Transplantation occurs in early or mid-June. At this point, the earth should warm up, and the air temperature should be at the same level (without sudden changes). Over a short summer, the plant will have time to please its magnificent appearance of flower growers, as it grows very quickly.
  2. Ural. Unstable weather conditions do not stop gardeners from growing castor oil in their flower beds. They plant it in late May and early June. Seeds are sown in March or April, so that the plants get stronger at the time of transplantation.
  3. Moscow region. Castor oil plants are transplanted to flower beds in May and June, depending on weather conditions. If the air temperature is set at +20 degrees, then you can safely plant plants in the flower garden.
  4. Krasnodar region.Warm and humid air is the most ideal place for the cultivation of castor oil. Exotic flower can be planted in late April, early May.

An exotic plant is not only an unusual decoration when creating an unusual landscape design of a farmstead, but also an excellent “repeller” of mosquitoes and flies.
