Potato "Irbitsky" is well suited for cultivation in personal plots. A full description of the variety, photos, reviews, readers can see in this article. This potato variety was bred by breeders from the Ural Research Institute in 2009. Potato "Irbitsky" is entered in the state register of Russia.
The potato variety “Irbitsky” was bred relatively recently, however, for such a short existence, it had its own fans among vegetable growers. Potato "Irbitsky" (variety description, photos, reviews, see below) has a high yield and is undemanding to natural conditions.

Grade description
The plant is erect, of medium height, with large dark green leaves. The waviness of the edge is pronounced. The inflorescence is large, sprawling, multi-flowered. Potato "Irbitsky" refers to mid-early varieties, from planting to ripening, an average of 70 to 90 days passes. Root crops are round in shape, with smooth red skin and small eyes. The weight of tubers is from 108 to 185 g. The pulp is light yellow in color, with a starch content of 13 to 16.5%.
Variety "Irbitsky" gives high yields, so from one hectare you can collect 400 centners. In one hole, there are usually from 8 to 10 tubers. Potatoes of this variety are perfectly stored, not susceptible to major potato diseases, suitable for cultivation in central Russia and the Urals.
When to plant
Variety Irbitsky can be planted a little later than the rest, since the growing season occurs within 70-90 days. Experts recommend planting this variety in mid-May. To get an earlier harvest, Irbitsky potatoes can be planted in late April or early May. In any case, the soil should be warmed up to +8 degrees at a depth of 12 cm.
Seed preparation
Three weeks before planting, seed potatoes are removed from the cellars and sorted, leaving only healthy, strong tubers. Potatoes are placed in a warm bright room at a temperature of +18 to +20 degrees. Humidity for germination of potatoes should not be less than 80%. Germinate seeds, spreading them in one or two layers in cardboard or wooden boxes with holes.
If there are not enough tubers in the room, they are placed in transparent bags, after making slots. Such bags are hung near the window, they are turned from time to time. After a few days, the temperature is lowered to + 10-12 degrees. This technique contributes to the development of strong shoots and does not allow them to stretch.
If the tubers sprouted ahead of time, the sprouts can be broken off. Do this gently without damaging the eyes.
Ready-to-plant tubers have sprouts 1-1.5 cm in size. Large potatoes are cut into three or four parts. Do this 7-10 days before planting in the ground so that a protective layer has time to form. If there is a need to cut tubers before laying in the holes, they are treated with the drug "Maxim" or "Prestige".
Landing
The site for planting potatoes is chosen open, sunny, with loose soil. Tubers are placed in holes or furrows 12 cm deep. When planting in the hole, you can add humus (0.5 liters) or one handful of wood ash. I place the tubers at a distance of 35 cm from each other, leave 60-70 cm between the rows, this distance will provide good access of light to the plants, which is very important for the formation of a large crop.
Care
Variety "Irbitsky" is undemanding in care, it tolerates drought and rainy days. But still potato plantings need to be weeded, loosened and spud.
The first hilling is carried out when the tops grow by about 10-15 cm. The soil is raked from all sides to the plant, it is better to do this after rains or watering. The second time they spud potatoes in two weeks, before closing the tops. The soil is loosened in the row-spacings by no more than 7-8 cm.
When the potato blooms, it is necessary to feed it with the following nutrient solution: 10 liters of water and 2 large tablespoons of superphosphate + a glass of mullein. All components mix well and water the plants at the rate of half a liter per bush. This fertilizer contributes to the faster formation of tubers. Top dressing is carried out only after watering or rain.
The Irbit potato variety tolerates drought well, but moistening on such days only contributes to a good harvest. Potatoes of this variety are watered after emergence, the second time it gains color, and the last after flowering.
Diseases and Pests
This variety is not affected by late blight, mosaic, leaf curl, fomosis, golden nematode.
The following insects can harm potato plantings:
- Colorado beetle. The larvae and the insect itself eat the potato tops; plantings can be eaten in a matter of days. To combat the Colorado potato beetle, drugs such as Prestige, Batsikol, and Dendrobacilin are used.
- Nutcracker Beetle Larva. In common people it is called as a wireworm, it damages tubers, making numerous moves in them. For prevention, when planting in the hole, they add “Pochin”, or a couple of large spoons of wood ash, or 1 teaspoon of dry mustard powder. In late autumn, the site is dug up. In the spring, all weeds are removed.
- Potato Moth. The butterfly itself is not dangerous, but the caterpillars that have appeared from the egg laying are capable of plants and root crops. When caterpillars appear, the plants are treated with “Cytocor” or “Spark”. For preventive purposes, pheromone traps are hung near potato plantings.
Two weeks before harvest, do not use chemicals.
Reviews
Vladimir 64 years old:
“I have been growing Irbit potatoes for more than five years. Over the years, always stayed with the harvest. In 2016, the summer was dry, watering plantings with potatoes was only possible twice a season, but the crop was still there. Usually I dig up from each bush up to 8 large pink rounded tubers. ”
Valentina 46 years old:
“We are planting the Irbitsky potato variety for the third year, the plants are not sick, we collect beetles manually. We dig the tubers on August 20, dry the crop for several days under a canopy, then put it in storage. Until spring, potatoes remain firm, fresh. Of this variety I often cook mashed potatoes, bake with fish, carcass with vegetables and meat. ”
Andrey 40 years old:
“In this variety I would like to note unpretentiousness, we have loamy soil, but there is a crop every summer. During planting, I lay humus in the holes, I fertilize it after flowering for the second time. I water the Irbitsky variety two or three times, potatoes are perfectly preserved in the cellar until June at a temperature of +2 degrees. "
