Beets are attributed to those vegetable crops that grow almost without hassle - “themselves.” Say, the summer resident is only required to sow the seeds of this plant on time, and then from time to time to thin out the sprouts and water the garden. But this is not entirely true: without human intervention, beets grow well only in chernozem very saturated with useful substances and on the solar bed. If one of these points on your beetroot “plantation” is not ideal, you will have to make an effort for a good harvest. We will tell you how to feed beets for growth in the open ground. Let's talk about the methods and composition of some fertilizers.
By the way, you know what is the difference between sugar beet and fodder?
Foliar beet top dressing with ash
This feeding method will suit your beet beds if the land on the site is too acidic and the water you water the garden contains a lot of iron. This metal oxidizes the soil and inhibits vegetable crops, so from time to time the earth needs to be alkalinized - add ash or crushed eggshells to it. In addition, foliar feeding with ash will help scare away from the beds of pests - aphids, slugs and unwanted insects.
How to feed beets with ash in open ground? It is very simple. Collect the ash left over from the fire (or rake it out of the furnace if you are heating the country house from dampness) and sift it through a large sieve or other device with holes. Scatter the crushed ash over the rows of beets, trying to get both on the leaves of vegetables and on the ground between them.
Let it stay on the leaves of ash (anyway, it will soon blow off the wind or wash away the rain), but in the row-spacings immediately fill the ashes into the ground, going between the lines of beets with a cultivator. Ash will enrich the soil in the garden and help beets fight garden pests. This "procedure" can be repeated throughout the summer season, but no more than once every three weeks.
Root dressing of beet beds with boric acid
For the full development of beet tubers, boron is very necessary. Without it, vegetables can grow sparse - both in diameter and in length. Therefore, every two weeks it is fashionable to arrange beet beds "douche" from a solution of boric acid. How to make beet top dressing with boron? To do this, you need a bag of boric acid (5 g), a 5-liter bottle and, in fact, 5 liters of ordinary water.
Pour boric acid into the bottom of an empty bottle, and then pour water into it. Fluids should not be completely up: leave some air to shake the solution. Screw the bottle cap over and shake the bottle so that the boric acid mixes with the water and completely melts. Then pour the boron solution into a regular watering can and pour the beet rows on top. Let the liquid fall both on the leaves, and on the tops of vegetables sticking out above the ground, and on the ground itself, in which beets grow.
Root top dressing of beets with folk remedies (herbal infusion)
A universal organic fertilizer for vegetable crops, which does not require financial investments, is a herbal infusion of weeds. They decided to water beets, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, pumpkins and all other crops, except for greens, every two weeks. Herbal dressing best enriches the earth with organic matter, so vegetables grow in such soil, "like yeast."
How to cook organic dressing for beets? Put a 30-liter container in a sunny area and put 3 kg of country weeds in it.It is highly desirable that among them there should be a lot of nettles - both young and old. Fill the plants with water so that the container is completely filled with liquid, and then cover it with a lid. After a few days, the liquid will ferment due to rotting plants and exposure to the sun. After bubbles (or even foam) appear on the surface of the water, this liquid with an extremely unpleasant odor can be used to water the beet beds.
Beet top dressing is a very useful part of caring for a vegetable bed. In addition, it does not require you to super-efforts or a lot of money: you can help beets on their own to grow to the right size!
