Sow radishes in egg cells

Sowing and growing radishes in this way is very convenient, besides, the cost of planting material is saved, and less care is required for seedlings. It will not be necessary to weed, since only one seed is thrown into the hole, thereby there will be no need to engage in weeding, as it happens just on the beds. In addition, radishes planted in such a way in the cells will grow large and juicy. This method of cultivation can be used both in open ground and in greenhouses, on window sills and in cold greenhouses under the film.

Planting radishes in egg cells: basic rules

egg trays

Before you go to the sowing, you need to prepare egg trays. As you know, a chicken egg can be the causative agent of a disease such as salmonella, so in order to avoid infection of the sprouts, the trays are treated with alcohol.

  • The tops of the conical ends of the containers are cut with a knife - this will be a cell for seeds, and they are laid out with the cut part on the ground, slightly pressing down. A little land should go into the hole.
  • If I plant in open ground, then it is necessary to attach cardboard egg containers to the ground, otherwise they will be carried away by the wind.
  • Seeds for such a planting are chosen by large, dried, and best of all early varieties, in order to grow a faster crop.
  • In one cell we sow one seed per cell, as sowing gives almost one hundred percent seedlings.
Sprinkle the seeds with soil, and best of all with sand.
  • After sowing the seeds, you need to take care of additional lighting, especially when it comes to the winter period. Lighting should be at least 12 hours a day, morning and evening.

As you can see, growing radishes in this way is not at all difficult. In three to four weeks it will be possible to harvest. We go further in our study: radishes in egg cells: how to plant and harvest a good crop.

Planting soil

beds

A lot depends on the quality of planting material. You also need to prepare the soil for planting in advance. Although the vegetable is unpretentious, it will grow and give the best harvest on sandy, loose soil. It is necessary in the fall to take care of the beds on which you plan to plant radishes. It’s best to choose a sunny place, to add last year’s humus to the ground, since fresh is strictly forbidden for growing this root crop. Dig up the soil and loosen before sowing.

In order to enjoy more tasty and healthy root crops, sow for several weeks. We plant once every five to seven days, so a fresh radish will constantly grow.

Other ways to plant radishes using egg trays

radish

Plastic containers - who have grown radishes more than once, have encountered this method, with their help they form landing holes. Before use, they should also be treated with alcohol. The trays are simply pressed into the ground, neat little holes are formed in which it is very convenient to plant radish seeds. Put one seed in the hole, sprinkle it with last year's humus. You can cover the wells with a film.

In the greenhouse

You can grow in greenhouses on shelves, using last year's beds, adding a little ash, sawdust and fresh soil from the garden. The soil layer should be about 10 cm, a little more is possible so that the radish root does not reach the wooden shelving. The soil is neatly leveled, all excess is removed, slightly loosened. The bottom of the cells is cut off from the cardboard tray using an office knife. The trays are laid out over the entire width and length of the beds, slightly pressing them into the ground. They do this so that the soil is in the cells, otherwise the seed can roll, when planting, under the tray. Sprinkle with soil, and preferably peat, so you get rid of excess grass.
