Characteristic and Description
Indeterminate type. Tall. The height of the bushes reaches almost 2 meters. Mid-season. 115 - 130 days from the first sprouts and you can observe the first crop of red, ribbed and slightly flattened fruits with a pleasant aroma and sweet taste with a typical, "tomato acidity". The pulp is fragrant and granular.
Ripe tomatoes have a softened large heart shape. Usually weigh up to 680 - 700 g. Suitable for preservation, preparation of juices and sauces, fresh salads. It can be grown in a greenhouse and outdoors.
Growing Features
To begin with, we calculate the optimal date for sowing seeds for seedlings. For this we use the conditional formula: (DATE OF THE PROPOSED DEPARTURE - 60 DAYS) - 5 DAYS.
In some regions of our country, tomatoes cannot be planted in open ground. Therefore, in order to ease their labors and create all the necessary conditions for a harvest, many make greenhouses. In this case, plants are easier to protect from cold winds, rainfall and sudden fluctuations in weather conditions.
Usually, indeterminate varieties grow in different directions or rapidly grow up. And this, of course, affects the quality of the fruit and its size.
We grow in greenhouse conditions
Would you like large fruits? Then follow the basic rules in the greenhouse:
- Transplant seedlings into the greenhouse on May 26–31 or June 1–6;
- Keep the distance between the bushes 45–70 cm;
- In order to strengthen the plants, water them abundantly for the first week;
- As soon as the seedlings are planted, begin to remove the side shoots. At the same time, leave hemp no larger than 2.5 cm in order to escape the growth of additional processes;
- When forming 2 stems, leave 2 shoots. Follow the stepsoning process until the beginning of September;
- Leave on the stem from 3 to 6 inflorescences;
- Before the first brush - remove all leaves, then skip the sheet. Make sure that the leaves do not touch the soil and that the peduncles are not covered;
- Damaged and irregularly shaped flowers should be removed;
- In August, after the last flower brush, pinch the tops of the bushes. We leave 2-3 leaves on the flower brush to suspend growth and for the ripening of large fruits;
- In order for the bushes to stand, despite the weight of the fruits, it is better to tie them to a trellis or peg;
- In a greenhouse, keep a stable temperature of + 24–28 degrees. The higher the temperature, the less likely pollination;
- Spray with a solution made of 1 tsp boric acid diluted in a bucket of plain water;
- Water the tomatoes in the evening without pouring water on the bushes;
- Clean weeds and hush bushes.
We grow on an open ground
- We choose the place where cucumbers, eggplants, zucchini, carrots grew earlier - the best predecessors;
- Dig a good site, adding organic and mineral fertilizers to the ground;
- Do not introduce clean manure, otherwise the green mass will grow;
- 3 parts of humus per 1 part of mineral fertilizer introduced in the spring, the best dressing for the normal development of the plant;
- 50 cm x 70 cm - the optimal distance between the bushes;
- Cover plantings from sudden frosts by any means at hand: banks, boxes, etc.
- Spud in the first couple of weeks;
- Be sure to step tall bushes;
- In spring, you can not water often, but in the summer 1 time in 2 to 3 days;
- After planting, from scaring away harmful insects and pathogenic bacteria, spray with a cooled broth of onion husks.
Pros of Big Ben
- High productivity of landing areas;
- Tomato is resistant to seasonal diseases;
- Long fruiting;

Reviews
Aksinya: The best thing our family liked was a juice recipe. I pass through a juicer, sugar and salt to taste, pasteurization and rolling. Done! Everyone is thrilled. They grew normally, were not made nervous because of diseases, rot and other tomato ailments. Try, experiment and be sure to find your favorite recipe for a dish.
Maya: I liked Big Ben because it has fleshy and juicy pulp, but because of the changing climate, it probably affected the fruits: some were bigger, others were smaller. I tried to observe the care: to mulch the soil, introduced horse manure, harvested weeds. But one tomato was enough for a full salad. Weighed 550 - 650 g each. Even the neighbors appreciated, they began to plant and consume too.
