9.04.2018 Tomatoes

Variety "Bononia" bred by experienced breeders in Bulgaria. It includes the best qualities inherent in tomatoes. Thanks to compact bushes, this variety is perfect for growing in small areas.

Description

It can be reckoned as a medium early ripening variety; from the moment the seeds are sown in the soil until the first fruits ripen completely, approximately 115-125 days pass. Tomatoes can be grown throughout the Russian Federation; in the southern latitudes, you can cultivate them in the open-air bed. In the middle lane and Siberia, in order to obtain the declared yield indicators, plants must be grown in greenhouse conditions.

Plants are semi-determinant, after 8-12 brushes are formed on it, it slows down in growth, grows approximately 1.5 meters in height. The stems are powerful, the amount of foliage is moderate. The leaves are large, rough to the touch, painted in a deep dark green color. On the brush, 4-6 fruits are usually formed, but in greenhouse conditions there can be up to 10 pieces of tomato. The highest yields can be obtained with the formation of plants in 2-3 stems. On average, 8 kg of tomatoes are harvested from 1 m2.

The fruits are large, rounded, fairly dense, their weight can vary from 150 to 200 grams. The skin is thick, glossy, without roughness. At the stage of technical maturity, the tomatoes are light green; when ripe, they turn a deep dark red color. Watermelon pulp with a high sugar content, it has a lot of juice and seeds.

The use of tomatoes of this variety is the most diverse, the fruits are simply magnificent in fresh salads, suitable for making juices, ketchups, dressings, and also suitable for salting.

  • Stretched fruiting.
  • Pleasant tomato flavor.
  • Productivity
  • Beautiful view of the fruit.
  • Congenital resistance to various diseases.
  • Possibility of transportation.
  • Compact placement of plants.

disadvantages

  • Demanding for top dressing, garters and the formation of bushes.

Diseases and pests

The variety is resistant to many diseases. But if you grow plants in a greenhouse and do not control humidity, they can be affected by vertex rot and a black leg. If the first symptoms of the disease are detected, the bushes should be treated with calcium nitrate. With fungal diseases and pests such drugs as Tattu, Alet, Infinito and Ridomil Gold can help fight them, they can be bought in stores for gardeners and gardeners.

Growing seedlings

Tomatoes are usually grown through seedlings, usually sowing seeds falls in March. In order to protect future seedlings from possible diseases of both viral and fungal or infectious etiology, it is necessary to disinfect the seeds before planting with the help of specialized drugs and growth stimulants. In order to reduce the time of seed germination a couple of days before sowing, they are wrapped in moist tissue. Sow seeds in pre-prepared boxes or peat containers filled with loose fertile soil.

For seed germination in the room should be very warm, the recommended temperature of at least 25 degrees. When sprouts appear on the soil surface, the temperature is reduced by 3-4 divisions. Then the container with seedlings is transferred to the brightest place. With a lack of lighting, seedlings can “stretch”.In the future, it is necessary to provide young plants with regular watering, fertilize the soil and monitor humidity and temperature conditions.

Picking occurs when 2-3 leaves appear, plants need to be transplanted with extreme caution, because a non-strengthened root system is very easy to damage. When the seedlings reach a height of 15 centimeters, they should be arranged so that each plant receives enough light. If the stems begin to become excessively dense, you need to lower the temperature at night.

Landing

The transfer of plants to the greenhouse takes place in early May, bushes are planted on the bed when the temperature stabilizes and the threat of night frost passes, usually this falls at the beginning of June. It should be noted that at this time each seedling should have at least 7-9 leaves. The holes are dug at a distance of about 50 centimeters so that the bushes do not obscure each other, moisten the soil before planting. If the seedlings, overgrown, it is planted at an angle.

Tomatoes are a very thermophilic culture, favorable temperature for their proper growth and development of 22-27 degrees Celsius. Cool weather and shadow will negatively affect the formation of fruits.

Important! If the seedlings began to bloom even before transplanting, it is better to remove these inflorescences!

Bushes are necessarily formed in 2-3 stems, new stepsons should be regularly removed. So that the stems do not break under the weight of the fruits, they are tied to a pre-installed support. Water the plants at least twice every seven days, in hot weather more often. But you don’t need to transfuse tomatoes either, an increase in humidity contributes to the development of fungal diseases, especially for bushes that grow in a greenhouse. Periodically you need to loosen the soil, do it after watering. Weeds are harvested as they grow.

Variety "Bononia" is very demanding on top dressing, the first is carried out with fertilizers containing phosphorus and nitrogen, these elements have a beneficial effect on the growth and development of bushes. The second time top dressing is made during the flowering and ovary formation, for this organic substances are well suited. During the ripening period of tomatoes, you can use a solution of bird droppings, or potash fertilizers.

Conclusion

The variety is great for growing in central and southern strip of Russia. Unpretentious care, but very in need of fertile soil rich in trace elements. If you create favorable conditions for the growth and development of fruits and make a little effort, already at the end of July you can eat delicious fruits.

Michael

I am satisfied with the variety, it has excellent immunity, during the cultivation I have never been attacked by pests. Planted in a greenhouse, noticed that if the plants lack moisture, the leaves begin to fade. The appearance is attractive, tomatoes are perfect for whole-canning, so they are all about the same. Harvest began to be harvested in early August, by the way, “Bononia” can be stored for quite some time.

Marina

I really liked the Bulgarian variety "Bononia" on sale, I did not meet him, by a fluke, a neighbor in the summer cottage shared seeds. Seedlings grew without problems, but, unfortunately, two bushes died after transplanting. Productivity is good on one brush formed from 5 to 8 ovaries. They ate fresh tomatoes and canned whole for the winter, I want to note that the peel did not crack during heat treatment, as sometimes happens.
