Variety "Bonsai" refers to dwarf decorative varieties of tomatoes. The compact size of the bush allows you to grow this plant even on the windowsill in a city apartment. Russian gardeners who grow this tomato both at home and in greenhouses, like it for its unpretentiousness and excellent taste of fruits.

Grade characteristics

Bushes of the Bonsai variety are notable for their small growth - 25-40 cm. The appearance of the plants is quite attractive: dark greens are harmoniously complemented by red balls of fruit. Each bush is able to give a good harvest - up to 1.7 kg of delicious tomatoes. The growing season is 85-90 days.

Fruit Description

Ripe tomatoes have a round shape and rich red color. Each small fruit weighs 25-45 grams. They are distinguished by a pleasant sweet taste that children especially like. The pulp of tomatoes is quite dense, the skin is thin and smooth. The fruits are consumed fresh and for salting.

Landing

As a rule, sowing of seeds is carried out in late February or early March. After 2 months, seedlings can be transplanted into the garden, or leave the plants at home. The soil for seedlings is purchased in a store, or prepared on their own. The composition includes peat, sand and fertile land. It is also permissible to add wood ash as a fertilizer. Before sowing, the earth is disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Seeds are immersed in the soil by 1.8-2 cm. Then the pots are tightened with a film until seedlings appear. After 5-6 days, the first sprouts appear.

After 2 months, the plants are transplanted to a permanent place - in a wide pot (5-7 liters) or in the garden in the garden. For growing bushes of tomato "Bonsai" you need to choose a well-lit place. It does not matter if it will be direct sunlight, or a shaded area. You can place bushes in the greenhouse at the rate of 7-9 pieces per 1 sq. m

Features of cultivation and care

Pots with tomatoes must have holes in the bottom - to remove excess moisture. It is best to install them on the south windowsill. With a deficit of light, special fluorescent lamps are installed.

Watering the bushes is carried out 1-2 times a week with warm water, under the root. Before flowering, leaves can be sprayed with water at room temperature.

Important! Excessive watering can cause mold, mildew and yellowing of the leaves.

During the growing season, plants are fed 3-4 times with potash and nitrogen fertilizers. During flowering, the bushes can be helped with pollination. To do this, shake the inflorescences every 3 days (this is not necessary!). The Bonsai tomato has both male and female cells, therefore it does not need artificial pollination.

Vladimir

We grow "Bonsai" with his wife on the balcony. I really like the process itself and the result. Tomatoes grow beautiful, tasty - we ourselves eat, and we spoil our grandchildren. We plant tomatoes in the spring, and the second wave in the summer to have fresh tomatoes until late autumn.

I used to grow only greens on a windowsill. Then my mother advised the Bonsai tomato. Not really believing in success, planted last spring. Not all seeds sprouted, but the sprouts were strong and grew well. I illuminated the plantings with a special lamp, since the apartment is generally dark. She tried not to overfill and in every possible way followed the advice of an experienced mother. As a result, delicious tomatoes ripened. I am satisfied with the result.

I used to grow this variety on the windowsill, and with the advent of the cottage I began to plant them in the greenhouse. The granddaughter is happy - she eats directly from the bush (I don’t water or spray anything with chemicals). And I especially like these canned tomatoes. They rarely crack in brine, but even if they crack, they retain their shape.
