24.03.2018 Tomatoes

"Delicious" is one of the old proven varieties, it appeared thanks to American breeders back in 1964. Tomato stands out among many for its large size, in some catalogs it can be found under the original name Delicious.

Description

Belongs to mid-ripening varieties from the time of emergence of seedlings to the ripening of tomatoes, 110-120 days pass, characterized by high productivity. Shrubs of medium leafy indeterminate type, unlimited in height, grow approximately 180-200 cm in height. You can grow in open ground and in shelters, given the climate of the region.

Fruits are large from 400 to 600 grams, but giants can grow fruits up to 1 kg. Tomatoes are flat-round in shape, at the stage of technical maturity they are green, when fully ripe, they turn bright red. The skin is thin glossy, fleshy flesh, sweet with a rich tomato flavor, small seed chambers.

Interesting! Tomatoes contain many useful substances, such as fiber, pectin, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and iron, as well as vitamins of the group: A, B, C, E.

Variety Delicious is more suitable for making fresh salads, for whole-canned preservation it will not work, since the fruits are too large. But it is quite suitable for making juice, pasta and sauces. Also, tomatoes can be frozen for the winter and added to various dishes. The variety is resistant to many diseases, but can be exposed to late blight, it is imperative to take preventive measures and treat the plants with such preparations as Metalaxil and Ecopin. Basil or garlic planted next to it will protect against aphids.

Advantages

  • Excellent presentation.
  • With proper care, excellent yield indicators.
  • Great taste.
  • Resistance to diseases and weather conditions.

disadvantages

  • Painstaking care is perhaps the only minus of the variety.

Growing seedlings

One of the most important conditions for obtaining strong and resistant seedlings is high-quality seed. Before landing, it must be disinfected and treated with stimulants. Fertile soil also plays an important role, you can buy it or make it yourself. Purchased soil for seedlings is already ready for planting and will not require any additional procedures, the soil mixture made independently must undergo preliminary preparation, it should be sieved from debris, larvae or residues of plant roots, and then disinfected.

Sowing work begins no later than mid-March, the main conditions for growing seedlings are, heat, light and the absence of drafts. Leaving consists in watering with warm water and top dressing with liquid complex fertilizers. At the stage of 2-3 real leaves, seedlings dive into separate containers. Before planting on the beds, the plants are quenched for a week.

Transfer

For young tomato seedlings choose a sunny area, protected from the winds. On 1 m2 place 3-4 plants. By the time of planting, the age of the seedlings should be at least 65 days, and a height of more than 20 centimeters. The soil should be loose, water-intensive and saturated with nutrients, a handful of ash and overripe manure is added to each well during planting. Since the variety is tall, the garter is required, also do not forget about removing the stepsons, the bush is formed into 1, 2 and 3 stems. To obtain very large tomatoes, it is recommended to form a plant in 1 stalk.

Important! If the bushes do not have enough moisture during the formation of the ovaries, they can discard the color.

Tomatoes should not be transfused, enough 2 times a week. This variety is susceptible to cracking at high humidity levels. Fertilize the bushes several times a season, the first time you can use nitrogen-containing fertilizers, after they should be excluded, otherwise all the forces of the plant will go into the formation of green mass. During the period of fruit formation, it is recommended to use potash fertilizers, per 1 m2 35-45 grams will be enough. If the leaves on the tomatoes begin to turn yellow, perhaps this signals a lack of magnesium in the soil. You can help the plant by feeding it with magnesium sulfate, you will need 10 grams of the drug in a bucket of water, this amount should be distributed into 3 bushes. Tomatoes growing in a greenhouse must be regularly ventilated, this will protect against the appearance of fungal diseases that can appear in high humidity.

You should also remove weeds in a timely manner, some gardeners advise to mulch the soil, this inhibits the growth of weeds and retains moisture. Seeds for the next season can be collected from the harvest, for this, fruits that are most suitable for the declared characteristics are selected.

Harvesting and Storage

Tomatoes should be picked before the onset of cold weather, if at that moment green tomatoes remained on the bushes, they are picked and laid on a windowsill for ripening. For storage, the fruits are torn from the bushes brown, and stacked in boxes that are placed in a cool dry place.

Conclusion

Delicious is a wonderful large-fruited variety; everyone who tastes it will surely love it. Of course, in order to get the declared high yield, you need to create comfortable conditions for the plants and spend time and energy on care, but the result is worth it.

“Delicious” was grown in a greenhouse, the fruits are very large, saturated in color, the flesh is juicy and tastes good. The soil in the greenhouse was disinfected, spilled with a hot solution of manganese, which is probably why the bushes did not hurt. I made tomato salads, one was enough for a salad for the whole family, and covered the juice and pasta. I was satisfied with the variety; it was not in vain that my time and energy were spent.

Excellent large-fruited salad variety, the taste is amazing, the pulp is juicy, dense. The bush formed into 1 stalk, several tomatoes were weighing up to 800 grams. I don’t know how it behaves during conservation, because I planted a couple of bushes for testing. Next year I will plant more, especially since I gathered the seeds from the harvest.
