Tomato Diplomat: characteristics with photos, growing tips, reviews

3.02.2018 Tomatoes

Tomato Diplomat belongs to the category of hybrids. It is characterized by medium ripeness and indeterminacy in the development of bushes. The ripening process from the moment the shoots appear takes about 108 to 115 days. Tomatoes are suitable for growing in greenhouse conditions. An exception may be only regions with a warm climate.

Grade description

The high-yielding hybrid was developed by Russian breeders. It is distinguished by the need to carry out pinching and timely careful tying of hands with forming fruits. Optimum is the germination of bushes in 1 - 2 stems. Each of the brushes gives 7 to 9 fruits.

The fruits themselves have a rounded shape, smooth, dense peel of red color, and also have an average weight of 110 - 120 g. In a fresh, balanced taste, sweetness and light acidity are harmoniously combined. Subject to the rules of cultivation and competent fertilizer, you can count on a crop in the range of 23 - 29 kg of tomatoes from 1 sq.m. (3 to 4 bushes).

Fruit application

Tomatoes Diplomat suitable for fresh consumption. They are successfully used in salads, as well as for cooking casseroles, sauces and healthy tomato juices. Thin, but quite dense peel prevents cracking even during prolonged heat treatments. Thanks to this, tomatoes canned successfully for the winter, both whole and as an ingredient for salads.

Advantages and disadvantages

In addition to the high yield and early ripening listed, the list of advantages of a tomato hybrid should include its natural defense against fusarium and cladosporiosis. In addition, the fruits differ:

  • prolonged keeping quality;
  • easy portability of transportation;
  • the ability to grow in poorly lit shady places;
  • suitable for future sales.

The hybrid does not have any special drawbacks. The only caveat concerns only the need to acquire new seeds every year, as well as protect plants from possible cold drafts.

Growing rules

If the cultivation of tomatoes begins with seeds, then it must be planted in the prepared soil two months before the planned transplantation of bushes to a permanent place. As a rule, it is 60 - 65 days. When planting bushes in a greenhouse or in an open area, it is necessary to observe the density of the bushes: no more than 3-4 plants per 1 sq.m.

Since the plant is indeterminate, pinching of the tops is recommended in early July. Due to this, incoming nutrients will begin to be spent on the development of fruits, and not the further growth of the bush itself and increase its foliage.

The second important point concerns the timely herding of bushes by removing lateral shoots and hilling bushes. The first hilling is carried out 2 to 3 weeks after planting. It was at this time that the root system manages to strengthen, and the formed earth mounds retain moisture inside and protect plants from damage by fungal infections. Repeated hilling is recommended at the beginning of flowering bushes.

Seedling Care Recommendations

A beautiful large-scale crop of tomatoes primarily depends on the qualities of the resulting seedlings. That is why it is worth taking care of a clean treated seedling container in advance, suitable soil, as well as its storage conditions.The seedlings themselves can be grown in wooden crates, plastic containers or any other container. It is much more important that the soil used is healthy and well-fertilized, for example, rotted compost.

The soil may also include sand or peat. The first substance allows you to loosen the soil and saturate it with a sufficient amount of oxygen, and peat serves as a strengthening of the growing seedlings. Of the mineral components, phosphorus and potassium salts are very important.

The increased acidity of the soil will allow to remove the sowed wood ash in the ratio of 1 part ash to 10 parts of soil. Before the first sprouts appear, the container should be covered with glass or a transparent protective film. This will allow the soil not to lose the necessary moisture. As soon as the sprouts begin to appear, all the shelters are completely removed.

The optimum room temperature is at least 18 - 22 degrees heat. Watering should be moderate and only after partial drying. Tomato Diplomat is quite resistant to temperature changes, but 2 - 2.5 weeks before the planned planting, it is recommended to harden the seedlings by taking it out to the street. At first, the time spent in the open air lasts no more than 2 to 3 hours, then it gradually increases to a full sunny day.

Planting seedlings must be carried out in warmed up to 16 - 18 degrees loosened soil with a mineral fertilizer complex applied.

To reduce the risk of damage to the bushes by fungal infections or bacteria, you can put garlic or onion husk in the hole to the roots. Spraying with a soda solution (250 g per 8 - 9 liters of water) or a two-day infusion of celandine (at least 1 kg of crushed fresh grass per 10 liters of water) will also be useful. For the first time, the procedure is carried out two weeks after planting the tomatoes, and after another 10 to 12 days it is repeated again. Such preventive spraying is extremely important for greenhouse cultivation of tomatoes.

If fungicides are used in the fight against harmful insects, you need to know that all work is carried out at least two weeks before the planned harvest. It is better to carry out the spraying process in the early morning so that the substance has time to soak into the leaves, and not evaporate under the influence of sunlight.
