Characterization and description of tomato “Torbay”

21.02.2018 Tomatoes

The mid-early variety “Torbey” among vegetable growers is considered a novelty. This hybrid was bred by Holland breeders in 2010. And the tomato was registered in the Russian Federation only in 2012, but has already gained popularity among lovers of pink tomatoes.

The Torbey variety is suitable for growing in the fresh air and in a greenhouse.

Characteristic

The main distinguishing feature of Torbay tomatoes is the rich pink hue of the fruit. By maturity, the variety belongs to mid-early varieties. Approximately 110 days pass from the moment of planting the seeds until the first harvest. When grown in a greenhouse, fruiting can be long. In a warm climate, it is possible to harvest until the end of September.

The variety is determinant. The height of the bush is directly dependent on environmental conditions. In open ground, the plant grows to 75 - 80 cm. In a greenhouse, the Torbey bush can reach 1.5 - 2 m.

The bush grows strong and spreading. The branches are densely covered with leaves. The structure of the bush is regulated by the abandonment or removal of stepsons. When growing tomatoes outdoors, dense foliage protects the fruits from direct sunlight - very harmful for pink tomatoes. But, in the greenhouse, excess leaves can slow fruit ripening.

The variety belongs to the hybrid - it is artificially bred by breeders. Therefore, plants are immune to common tomato diseases.

Fruit Description

Torbey tomatoes are beautiful pinkish in color. Ripe tomatoes have a slightly flattened spherical shape. The mass of the fruit is 170 - 250 gr. The pulp is sweetish with a small amount of seeds. The skin is shiny, dense and durable. It does not crack during transport and during salting.

Care Features

In the southern and central strip of Russia, it is permissible to plant a tomato in open soil, covering it with a film for the night. In the northern regions, plants must be placed in a greenhouse.

Like most tomatoes, Torbey planted seedlings in the garden. Seeds are sown 40-50 days before the intended transplant to the beds. For normal development, tomato grains are deepened into the soil by 1.5 - 2 cm. From above, the earth is sprayed from the spray gun and the pot is tightened with a film until the seedlings are pecked. For 10 of it before the plants are transplanted into the ground, they begin to harden - they take out the pots on the balcony for 1-2 hours. Gradually, time spent on the street is increasing. The optimum temperature for tomato growth is 20 degrees.

Seedlings recommended to plant according to the scheme 60 × 35 cm. For 1 square. m. placed no more than 4 bushes.

Important! The stem must be tied to a support, and the branches with fruits should be strengthened with supports
.

A tomato bush is formed in 1-2 stems. The more branches left, the longer the fruiting lasts. This moment is regulated based on the climatic conditions of cultivation.

Tomatoes need regular watering and loosening of the soil. Regular top dressing with organic fertilizer is also carried out.

Keep in mind! It is necessary to ensure that the lower fruits do not come in contact with the ground - otherwise their decay may begin.

Productivity

The number of fruits on the bush depends on the care, soil and growing conditions. On average, 4-6 kg of tomatoes can be removed from one plant. That is, with 1 square. m. soil crop is 16-24 kg.

Fruit use

Thanks to the excellent presentation, Torbey tomatoes are grown not only by summer residents, but also by farmers. The fruits have a sweet and sour taste, so they are used fresh for salads and snacks. Smaller tomatoes are used for preservation in cans or barrels as a whole. Also, tomatoes are used to make juice, tomato paste and various sauces. The taste of all the blanks is rich and pleasant.

Diseases and Pests

The only disease that plants sometimes experience is the "black leg". Both seedlings and adult specimens can become ill. This ailment is not treated, so the bush will have to be removed and burned. And the place of growth should be treated with fungicides.

If pests are found, they use narrow-focus products that are purchased in the store.

Irina, Omsk

I grow this hybrid in a greenhouse, delete all stepsons and leave 1 branch. A lot of ovaries are formed on each plant, but I keep no more than 30 so that they can ripen. I like the taste of tomatoes, the bushes did not hurt.

I liked Torbay so much that from pink tomatoes she left only him. It grows well in the greenhouse, but the bush turns out to be tall, about 2 m. I grow seedlings myself from purchased seeds. For the season I manage to collect 2-3 waves of the crop. Tomatoes are pleasant, sweet to taste - I use them both in salads and for preservation.

I didn’t really like the tomato. I neglected fertilizers and the tomatoes grew small. The taste is freshish, the fruits are dense. The wife pickled several cans.
