Growing tomatoes 28.11.2017

What does the taste of tomatoes depend on, how to get a fragrant crop?

When tasting the grown fruits, how often people get disappointed and ask the question: “What can we do to ensure that tomatoes are not only fruitful, but also tasty?”

What influences the taste

As often planting a particular variety and receiving the fruit, we are disappointed. But yesterday, we were confident that this variety was tested by time and vegetable growers, and it cannot fail.

The fact is that the same variety manifests its data differently, and they are significantly influenced by:

  • regional features;
  • climate;
  • soil type;
  • watering level;
  • nutrient balance.

Is cultivar important

Experienced vegetable growers have noticed that the selection of new products in recent years is significantly inferior in taste to the good, old varieties of the last century, when a tomato melted the taste and smell of a tomato, and did not resemble something dense and waxed.

Unfortunately, in pursuit of yield and transportability, for the sake of large producers, breeders have lost their “nose”, but now they are trying to find and return lost qualities.

There are, of course, tomatoes with very tasty and pleasant pulp. Sweet, with their characteristic aroma, orange fruit tomatoes are very tasty, in which the level of organic acids is not just low, but balanced. It is these varieties are designed for baby and diet.

The fact that pink tomatoes are much tastier than red ones is also not a secret. In this case, the gene of taste and color works in a pair, and this is palpable.

Striped and black tomatoes have a peculiar, interesting taste, but they are also “an amateur”.

However, it also happens that the variety is old and proven, and the taste is lost.

Regional wisdom

By visiting the southern regions and having tasted the sweet and aromatic tomato fruits there, the vegetable growers try to bring the seeds to their home and try to grow them.

Sometimes the difference in a regional arrangement is equal to thousands of kilometers, and having grown a tomato, the vegetable grower is disappointed.

This happened because some varieties and hybrid recommended for cultivation in all climatic zones, others in certain, and neglecting this, is lost:

  • taste;
  • smell;
  • yield;
  • disease resistance.

The importance of growing conditions

It is undeniable that if the weather conditions do not favor the heat-loving crops to grow a benign, healthy and tasty crop is almost impossible.

Transformations of simple minerals into carbohydrates take place during the course of certain biochemical processes in cells and their redistribution throughout the whole plant organism. In order for these processes to take place optimally, certain conditions are necessary:

  • temperature;
  • solar insolation;
  • humidity.

Since in the south the first two points are normal, and the third is regulated by man, tomatoes can show all their genetic potential and grow a tasty and sweet fruit. The northern regions are quite another matter, one cannot do without human help here.

Creating conditions for closed ground, a person tries to independently ration the temperature and humidity indicators, trying to get as close as possible to the optimum.

Tomato nutrition and taste

The taste of the tomato depends on the soil on which the tomato plant is cultivated.

Sour peaty soils are completely unsuitable, and potassium deficiency, or not being able to assimilate it, will make the tomato bland and tasteless.

A special role is played by preplant soil preparation, neglecting which it will be impossible to provide nutrient balance with the help of dressings.

If the soils have poor nutritional value, it is necessary to prepare in advance a soil mixture that will be applied locally, under each bush. The composition of the soil include:

  • ripe humus (cow, horse, pig) - 1 part;
  • fresh compost - 2 parts;
  • garden land - 1 part;
  • sand, large, river - 1 part;
  • oven ash - 0.250 kg for each bucket of the mixture;
  • superphosphate - 1st. spoon or double superphosphate - 1 tsp per bucket mix;
  • potassium sulfate - 1 tbsp. spoon;
  • dolomite flour - 1 tbsp. spoon, if it is known in advance that the soil is acidic.

When planting seedlings, we place part of the nutrient mixture on the bottom of the planting pit, and pour the rest of the plant rhizomes with the rest of the mixture.

Place of landing - does matter

The fact that tomatoes bloom beautifully and tie fruit in an openwork shadow, and even there where the sun rarely looks in is not a secret. However, such tomatoes will never be tasty and sweet.

When choosing a landing place, it is necessary to give preference to the place:

  • light;
  • warm
  • sunny;
  • sheltered from the north winds.

The slightest shading will result in under-accumulation of dry matter.

If the choice of landing sites is not great, and you want to grow a tomato, then you should try to plant so that the tomato highlights at least the rays of the rising sun, in this it is very similar to roses.

Moisture and taste

If the year was extremely wet and in the period of ripening, tomatoes are constantly rained, it is practically impossible to achieve sweetness and goodies from the fruit.

If the weather is not happy with the rains, then watering should be done by man. This agrotechnical event also has its own requirements.

Watering should be carried out:

  • 2 times per week;
  • the volume of water must completely moisten the whole earthen room under the root system;
  • water must be warm;

If the tomato is cultivated on light soils, watering is carried out more often.

The number and quality of fruits

It is no secret that tomato salad varieties have a more pronounced, sweet and rich flavor than those intended for processing and commercial production. And it is a lettuce tomato that forms in one or two shoots, and not a bush without forming and pasynkovaniya.

In pursuit of harvest, commodity shaft, it is impossible to grow a tasty tomato. The plant, in taking care of its fruits, conducts the redistribution of carbohydrates in all tomatoes that have started, in the end - a lot and no.

It is quite another thing when the ovary carries 3-4 fruits, they manage to absorb nutrients, light and heat, and give everything to a tasty and sweet tomato.
