Dahlias Galleries or Galeries are a new subspecies of the popular plant, familiar to many from early childhood. Unpretentious in care, the cultivation of plants of this type is possible even for beginner growers; in the description of varieties, almost all shades are found, except for blue. It differs from the usual bushes in its short stature, early flowering and lush double flowers. Bred by the Dutch breeder as a border option for the design of flower beds, garden paths, patios.

When growing dahlias and in the process of caring for them, remember that the plant comes from Mexico, and therefore loves the sun. In the descriptions of this variety collection, experienced gardeners indicate that the bushes can delight the eye with a variety of pastel and bright colors not only outdoors - they bloom beautifully in indoor conditions and in winter gardens. At the same time, Galleri belong to bouquet plants that feel good in cut.

Features of planting varieties

Under all conditions, the plant rarely grows above 40 cm. It is better to plant it for permanent residence from seedlings. Seeds must be bought from a trusted supplier and planted in pots or disposable cups with a good lower layer of expanded clay or fine gravel - the plants do not tolerate excess moisture.

Important to remember: Dahlia Gallery is a hybrid variety, so growing a beautiful, full, double flower from home-produced seeds is unlikely to succeed. Without special treatment, plants in the next generation lose their decorative qualities.

The main soil for a good development of flowers is a mixture of peat, humus and sand for open ground. It can also be used when planting large containers in containers. And you can buy a ready-made composition with the marking "For flowers and flowering plants."

The process of planting Gallery seeds is no different from similar manipulations with ordinary annuals:

  1. On moist soil, put seeds at a certain distance from each other or 2-3 seeds in disposable seedling containers.
  2. Sprinkle on top with a centimeter layer of substrate.
  3. Cover the entire structure with foil.
  4. It should be kept in a room with an air temperature of at least 27 degrees.
  5. As soon as the seedlings begin to hatch, remove the shelter and continue to care as for ordinary seedlings of garden crops.
Important: Galleri dahlias should only be watered with a spray gun so that the soil is moist but not wet.

Planting seedlings for permanent residence is possible only when the frost does not return. If by this time the plants have grown enough, and they cannot be planted on the flowerbed due to bad weather, you will have to dive the plants. For good development and early flowering, they need more space than in a seedling container.

Before picking, be sure to fill the containers with the bores for several hours with warm water in order to injure the plants as little as possible during planting. If you plan to grow flowers in containers or large flower pots to decorate the balcony, picking can be combined with planting on a permanent "residence". In this case, you need to add a little wood ash to the soil after disinfecting the soil with a thick solution of potassium permanganate, heated to 70 degrees.Tanks for decorating a garden or flowerbed by such Dutch beauties should be taken wide - at least 30 cm wide and the same in depth.

A week or two before the planned transfer of the dahlia to the street, pots with plants or seedlings should be taken out little by little to the open air for hardening. Gradually, the time Gallery spent on the street should be increased so that the flowers got used to the fresh air. Along the way, reduce the temperature in the room where the plants grew by 1-2 degrees every other day.

Landing Area Dahlia Gallery

Flowers of this species are very fond of light, but in extreme heat the soil under the bush dries quickly, so you should choose sunny areas with sufficient light for 6-8 hours. Such a place can be chosen empirically - to detect in which part of your site the sunlight will fall on the plants for exactly this amount of time. Since there is no blue color in the varieties, bright plants of all shades of blue and conifers will be good neighbors for a colorful variety in the flowerbed. He does not like dahlias only asters - if such a flower grows nearby, or he was at the place of landing of the Gallery - the plant will die.

Poorly tolerating Dutch “babies” and drafts, northern, gusty winds, which must be considered when choosing a landing site.

Soil for Dahlia Gallery

The only type of soil that the plants cannot stand is too acidic. Therefore, if the acidity at the landing site exceeds the mark of 6.7 units on a conventional scale, you must either reduce this indicator or look for another place for planting the plant. Flowers of this type are well related to humus, loose, light soil mixed with sand and peat.

Landing Dahlia Gallery in the open ground

In a garden bed prepared since autumn for flowers, make a hole 3 times larger than the size of the root system of the plant or its tubers. Immerse the seedlings in the ground until the first true leaves, tubers - 2 cm above the root neck. In the process of planting, you can feed the bush with a small amount of humus or wood ash.

Important: you can not use all varieties of manure and nitrogen fertilizers for feeding Dahlia Gallery - an excess of this mineral fertilizer leads to the overgrowth of miniature bushes and a shorter flowering time.

The earth around the plant cannot be tamped too much - dahlia roots love air very much. Water and cover with a small layer of mulch - and the soil will not dry out, and weeds will not bother. Also, mulching will help to cope with slugs and pests.

If the weather forecast warns of a cold snap, you should cover the bushes with glass jars at night. All types of shelter can be used except for fabric.

Care

In the process of flowering dahlias do not need special care. It is only necessary to monitor the looseness of the soil, remove weeds and treat the plants from time to time with insecticides. Gallery is a tidbit for aphids, and folk remedies for controlling these pests on flowers do not help. You also need to view the lower leaves on the bushes. Often, due to the abundant flowering of large flowers, they decay; in this case, they will have to be cut off.

Watering and feeding

It is best to apply special fertilizers for flowering plants - they have a prolonged effect and will not allow the hybrid to grow larger than the prescribed size or to distort the flowers. You should also be careful with watering - dahlias do not like too wet soil and do not tolerate too dry soil. It’s worth the weather.

Overfeeding plants is also not worth it - just a few dressings per season are enough for plants to please with bright, lush flowers until the frosts.

It's important to know: if the dahlias of the Galley have grown too much before flowering, watering and top dressing should be stopped.

Cleaning and storage

The undersized varieties of this plant form too small tubers to be stored as the rhizomes of ordinary, tall species. It will be necessary to remove them for storage in several stages:

  1. For 1 - 2 weeks should stop watering and top dressing. So that in the neck of the tuber there is less moisture.
  2. Carefully dig up the nodules, discard all that have spots of unknown origin.
  3. Leave the crop in the shade so that the neck of the tuber is slightly curled.
  4. Rinse all tubers under running water, allow them to dry naturally.
  5. Peel the tubers of suction roots and sprouts.
  6. Dilute any systemic fungicide in water, lower planting material into it for 15 minutes, remove and dry on paper.
  7. After a day, fold the dahlia Gallery tubers in bags or containers with large fraction vermiculite and send for storage. The optimum temperature in the basement or cellar with planting material should not exceed +8 degrees.
You can store tubers in sand or large sawdust, but then you will have to revise the rhizomes from time to time - with excess water in the air they can germinate prematurely, and if dry, dry out and die.

Dahlia Gallery Reviews

Maria Vasilievna:

“After going on a well-deserved rest, a lot of free time appeared. I decided to decorate the apartment with flowers, I just wanted to choose bright plants. To please the eye and cheer up. I bought Dahli Gallery, varieties: La Tour, Cézan and Rembrandt. The result exceeded all expectations - they bloom together, the colors are bright, juicy, minimum hassle - the balcony has become very beautiful, I recommend it to everyone! ”

Nikolay Ivanovich:

“I have been growing dahlias for only a few years. Last year, I purchased the Gallary Matisse seeds for decorating garden paths. I was not disappointed - all the bushes bloomed profusely from early June to October. The only drawback is that the aphids attacked the bushes with unprecedented power, and it was necessary to save plants with storefronts. ”

Natasha:

“On my birthday, for 16 years, a girlfriend brought a pot with a small bush and a label on it as a present. Sveta knew that I was dreaming of becoming a florist. A few weeks later, buds appeared on the plant. And after a while, and beautiful soft pink flowers. It was a Dahlia Galleri of the Rembrandt variety. For more than 2 years, the plant has been traveling with me in rented apartments - I study at the university and am happy with colorful flowering. As soon as I have the opportunity, I will buy a few more varieties - in the Internet gallery I really liked Cezanne and Leonardo.
