Description and characteristics of Laton potatoes
Potatoes form tall and erect bushes with large matte leaves, thick and lush potato tops, which slowly ripen and die. Lush tops helps preserve soil moisture and reduces the need for frequent watering.

The rules for growing varieties
Before planting potatoes, it is recommended to process the planting material from pests and infections, use special stimulants to obtain a bulk and high-quality crop. This treatment has a positive effect on the possibility of obtaining a crop.
It is recommended that the following useful products for growing potatoes be added to the soil:
- ammonium nitrate is introduced before planting potatoes and only in the spring;
- high-quality manure, lime, and mineral fertilizers are applied when growing potatoes and before digging the soil.

Potatoes of the Latona variety practically do not tolerate stagnation of meltwater, therefore, for the successful development of root crops, full drainage of the soil is required.

Watering
In a non-dry summer, only 3 waterings are carried out. Immediately after planting, it is advisable to temporarily abandon watering, since the soil remains saturated with spring moisture. After the tops begin to grow actively (approximately 2 weeks after the appearance of the first shoots), watering becomes mandatory. In addition, watering is carried out after the beginning of flowering of potato bushes and the formation of tubers. The third watering is planned taking into account the condition of the soil, since it should not be excessively wet or solid.
In each case, after irrigation, the soil is loosened.
Hilling
Hilling is planned taking into account the climate and soil, as it increases the internal temperature of the soil. Potato growth slows if the soil temperature rises above +20 degrees.
At the same time, hilling eliminates the crust on the surface of the soil, which can impair the development of potatoes. For this reason, hilling may be required if the soil becomes too dense.
Row spacing is required. The main task is to protect potato tubers from spring frosts, destroy weeds, maintain optimal moisture and create conditions for air to enter the potato root system. The first cultivation of row-spacing is carried out after the emergence of potato seedlings. In the subsequent earthing up is required after each watering or rain and before flowering of potato bushes.
Top dressing
For the Latona variety, regular top dressing is required.
For the season, 3-fold introduction of fertilizers is required:
- the development of young potato tops;
- the development of potato buds;
- flowering to accelerate the formation of tubers and strengthen the roots.

Pest protection
To protect against pests, it is recommended to use ash, as it guarantees an effective fight against parasites. Ash is used to prepare the solution, followed by watering and treatment control. According to this scheme, rotting of potatoes is excluded, the appearance of the Colorado potato beetle is prevented.
Onion peel is another effective folk remedy. Onion husks are added to the wells during planting, used to mulch the crops and sprinkled with plants.
Garlic infusion is used to protect against late blight. To do this, 200 grams of garlic is carefully chopped and poured with water. The tool is insisted for 2 days, mixed and used to process potatoes. The procedure is carried out twice - three times with an interval of 10 days.
Harvesting and storage
The characteristics of Laton potatoes indicate that this variety deserves a high level of popularity. Latona is an early potato, so it can be harvested in mid-summer.
First, dig one cube and evaluate the size of the tubers, since their diameter should be 3 centimeters. In July, early potatoes are harvested. If the tops fade, there will be no more potato harvest in the near future and all root crops have been harvested.
After harvesting, the potatoes are dried in the sun. It is believed that the sun's rays destroy fungi, bacteria, so the composition becomes more useful and the upcoming storage of the vegetable is increasing. Only healthy and high-quality potatoes are stored.
Fruits with minimal mechanical damage are used in the first place, since they cannot be stored whole. This approach will allow you to store quality potatoes longer.
