How to plant roses in the fall: detailed instructions

Some gardeners believe that it is better to plant roses in the fall, while others - in the spring. The climate and weather conditions in the area play a large role. Spring planting is suitable for standard roses in areas with an early onset of cold weather. In the fourth, fifth and sixth climatic zones, roses are planted in the autumn period (September-October).

In recent years, abnormal heat has been observed. There is practically no soft spring. Already in May, the temperature rises to summer rates. For young, just planted plants, this is a detrimental factor. In the open sunshine, young seedlings can burn out.

The planting process begins with the excavation and refueling of pits. Make such pits with a width of 50x50 cm and a depth of up to 0.5 m, lay the upper and lower soil layers separately.

The necessary organic and mineral additives are added to soils with different porosity and acidity.

  • Season black soil (the best soil for garden roses) with humus or compost (2-3 kg per bush), and add 50 g of complex mineral fertilizer (nitroammophosk).
  • When planting roses on heavy clay soils, add 3-5 kg ​​of humus to the pit along a bucket of river sand and peat. Add 25-35 g of phosphoric or 50-80 g of complex fertilizer.
  • If you have light sandy soil, add to the planting pits a bucket of compost, humus, a couple of buckets of sod land and 50 g of mineral fertilizer such as nitroammophos.
  • Acidic soils before laying the rosary deoxidize by adding wood ash, chalk and adding black soil to the pits.

Mix all components in a landing pit with the top layer of the earth. Distribute the soil from the bottom layer of the pit (less fertile soil) around the planted plant.

Pour 1-2 buckets of water into the prepared pits. Cover with film or twigs to reduce evaporation. Leave for 1-3 weeks, and if possible - for 1-2 months. Periodically spill planting pits with water so that the soil shrinks.

Seedling preparation

Selected seedlings should have 3-5 healthy shoots, elastic roots with white color on the cut. The place of vaccination at the root neck should be smooth, well fused, without signs of eating insects.

  • Roots in cut seedlings (renew) with a sharp knife or secateurs 5-7 cm, remove damaged and diseased roots.
  • Soak planting material in water a day before disembarking at a permanent place. To do this, use solutions of drugs such as: "Potassium humate", "Kornevin", "Epin." Mix all stimulants according to the instructions.
  • To protect the root system from infections and pests prepare a creamy clay solution (clay mash). Soak plant roots in it two hours before planting.
  • On the seedling, select 3-5 strong shoots, shorten them, leaving 2-4 healthy buds. Cut dry, thin and damaged branches with a sharp secateurs, remove leaves.

Proper planting of roses in the autumn

The methods of planting roses in autumn and spring are almost the same. The main thing is that the soil is of moderate humidity.

  • On the eve of planting, spill each prepared hole with an aqueous Kornevin solution or pink potassium permanganate.
  • In the center of the pit, pour a hill of fertile land. Spread the roots of the seedling and set on top of the earthen mound.
  • Count the depth of planting of the seedling so that the place of grafting the rose is buried by 5-7 cm (so that the grafting does not freeze in winter).
  • Seal the earth around the planted bush, water and let it soak in water.
  • Sprinkle the hole with the remaining soil and mulch if possible. If the autumn sun is still shining brightly, shade the plant with a cloth or other materials at hand.
  • With the onset of cold weather, hush bushes to a height of 30-40 cm with a mixture of garden soil, peat and humus.
