Description and description of the tomato "Firewood"

5.02.2018 Tomatoes

Today, tomatoes are grown not only by the happy owners of their own personal plots, but also simply by lovers of this vegetable, who have only a window sill and a little space on the balcony in their apartments. The variety that we will talk about today will appeal to both the first and second categories.

The main characteristics of the variety

Tomato "Firewood" was bred relatively recently, but lovers of exotic varieties immediately appreciated its benefits. This name was given for a special form. Elongated oval tomatoes, forked at the very end.

On the bushes the clusters really resemble an armful of firewood, only miniature.

"Firewood" is a low-growing variety. The bush reaches a height of only 30-40 cm. Suitable for growing in open ground, in a greenhouse and even at home.

Wherever a place is chosen, such tomatoes will become a real decoration of the site. The bush of a decorative form in combination with the original shape of the fruit is a real admiration.

Ripe tomato weighs about 80 grams, reaches a length of 15 cm (at home, about a third less). The pulp is juicy, slightly loose, but not watery, few seeds. The taste is sweet without sourness and cloying. Like both adults and children.

Matures in 90-100 days. Maturity can be determined by the peduncle. When there is no green spot on it, the fruits can be eaten.

The yield of the variety is quite high. From one bush you can collect 1.5-2 kg.

It is used fresh, used for preservation whole and in the form of salads. It keeps its shape perfectly and is stored for a long time. Very tasty and rich ketchups and sauces are obtained from this variety.

Note! Tomato "Firewood" has a special aroma that helps increase appetite.

Growing Features

Tomato "Firewood" is sown for seedlings in late February - early March. The variety is characterized by high germination, but still it will not hurt to check the seeds. It is very easy to do. It is enough to pour them into a glass of water and stir well. After a few minutes, the seeds will be distributed. Part will sink to the bottom, and part will pop up. The second category is dummies, feel free to throw them away.

After sorting, the seeds will not hurt to disinfect in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Attention should be paid not only to the preparation of planting material, but also to the soil. The best option is to calcinate in a water bath. This must be done, because in the land, even if it was purchased in a store and not harvested on its own, there may be larvae and eggs of pests that wake up after wintering and will be very happy to enjoy young sprouts.

After the appearance of the first two or three true leaves, seedlings are dived into separate containers. In open ground planted when the air temperature will be stable 15-20 degrees. Pre seedlings must be hardened. To do this, you just need to take containers with plants outside, gradually increasing the time spent there.

It is important! If you plan to grow tomato "Drova" at home, you still have to make a third transplant. To do this, you need to choose a wide pot or a spacious box.

Transferring seedlings to a permanent "place of residence", take care of the supports in advance. The bush is low, but it often breaks under the weight of the fruit.

Care and Harvest

The variety is quite fertile, the crop will be obtained in any case, but still, subject to some simple recommendations, it will be possible to significantly increase it.

The tomato loves the soil fertile, friable. If you grow in pots, take care of drainage so that the roots receive enough air and moisture.

In open ground, care must be taken to protect plantings from pests. To do this, you can pour eggshells into the hole or put on a handful of onion peels.

If the soil is sparse, you can put peat or humus on the bottom of each hole. Just before you immerse the plant in it, do not forget to sprinkle a layer of earth on top so that the young shoots do not get burned.

In the future, during the growing season, it is enough to carry out two or three fertilizing with mineral and organic fertilizers.

Variety "Firewood" is resistant to diseases and pests, but, nevertheless, conduct regular inspection will not hurt. And if there is a risk of infection from other plants, then carry out a soapy water treatment, spray with a decoction of onion peel, spread freshly wormwood and celandine in the beds.

Tomatoes are harvested in July-August, depending on when they were planted. It should be noted that they do not mature gradually, but at the same time. Sometimes to relieve the weight experienced by the bushes, part of the half-ripened tomatoes is torn off and left to ripen at home.

Reviews

Despite its relative youth, the Drova tomato earned a lot of positive reviews from gardeners.

I planted these tomatoes last year for the first time. To be honest, I did not expect that on such small bushes there will be such a large number of fruits. I didn’t think about the garter, and they just broke. They matured in the gazebo, but I didn’t really like the taste. Used for salads. The form is kept perfectly. I studied the characteristics of the variety and realized that I made a bunch of mistakes. This time, I’ll plant fewer bushes, and be sure to tie them to the supports. I hope everything works out.

More recently, my husband and I moved to your home, and now my hobby is experimenting on a personal plot. Constantly buying new varieties. Tomatoes "Firewood" planted on the site. Yes, the harvest is excellent, I also liked the taste, but this is not the main thing. I planted them in flower pots in December and by the end of March we were already eating fresh tomatoes. Moreover, this is without additional exposure and without top dressing. Only sweet water, as for indoor plants, sometimes used. Very satisfied.

Try growing the Firewood tomato. It is not difficult at all, and the result will surely please you.
