Celery is a beautiful and healthy vegetable, but in the middle lane it is only necessary to grow seedlings, otherwise you can’t wait until the harvest is frosty, because its ripening dates are so long - it takes up to six months from the time of planting. Therefore, early on seedlings, even before the beginning of spring, the seeds must be sown in the house, in the heat to sow, so that by May it was already possible to plant the planted plants in the ground. And then in October you will have a beautiful fruit ripen, just in time to dry it and put it in the basement for the winter.
When and how to plant seeds
In mid-February, it’s about time to plant seeds in boxes with strawberries. Days on the lunar calendar, see, for this year, dates 8-17 are relevant. If you reach March, it’s better to sow 5-14, it is suitable for March 16th.
First, choose an early radicular celery, so fresh is a must - look at the packaging carefully. The seeds of imported selection proved especially good.
Arriving home - do so. In the prepared drawers of zemlyanitsa, pour loose, mixed with sand and humus. Spill it with hot potassium permanganate, and let the day stand.
For tomorrow, pour some more water and lay the seeds directly on the surface after about 4-5 cm. Sprinkle with earth, cover with glass and at a temperature of about 25 gr. stand, periodically moisturizing, until germination. This will take about two weeks. Then you can open and lower the temperature by exposing the shoots to the light.
Since all this will happen in February-March, the sun is still small, your seedlings can easily stretch out and lie down, so you need to take care of the lamp for illumination.
Some still do this beforehand: the seeds in the water are soaked warm, then they are tied in marlechka and allowed to lie there for three days. Dive and land
When your seedlings threw out 2 real leaves - you can resettle them from the dormitory in private apartments, that is, do a pick. Prepare the cups with soil for the plants, spill the seedlings well so that you can carefully pull them out with a lump, without damaging the roots, and relocate them gently to the new housing. Everyone, let them sit there before landing in the ground, and this time will come somewhere in the middle of May.
Well, it’s already warmer on the street, we can transfer our already-fortified plants to a new place of residence. Prepare the beds, plow, shed, and at the same time prepare the film - our young celery still needs shelter, and this will continue until June. And then it will be possible to open it, seedlings will not be scary, it will enter into force, and frosts should not be afraid anymore.
So, the bed is ready, take out the seedlings, do not deepen every 30 cm, so that the growth point is not sprinkled with earth, and sprinkle with a zemkalk. It is not necessary deeply, since celery then the root may begin to branch and lose its shape. Just then it’s better to mulch the plants so that the root does not stick out from the ground.
