The royal mushroom belongs to the amanite family and is an edible variety of agaric mushrooms. The people are also known under the names Caesar, Amanita Caesar, Caesarean mushroom, and, of course, edible fly agaric - due to the fact that it looks like a red poisonous fly agaric, with which it is often confused.
Another interesting name is egg mushroom, obtained by him for the cocoon from which it emerges.
Appearance and photo
Caesar's mushroom (or as it is sometimes called - the ovary) is initially a small white testicle from which an orange semicircular hat on a long leg “hatches”.
With age, the hat straightens and becomes flat. The mushroom has yellow convex plates under the hat, which closer to the edge resemble fringe.
Morphology
Mushrooms have the following species differences:
- the fruiting body begins to develop in the ovoid cocoon, which forms a thick white coverlet;
- the color of the hat varies from golden to red. Its diameter is from 8 to 20 cm. The skin is dry. The shape of the cap changes as it develops, from convex to flat. Along the edges of the radial grooves;
- the foot is 16 cm long and is located in a sacciform Volvo, has a cylindrical shape. It is painted in orange-yellow color, the hanging ring has the same color, and above it are not very noticeable stripes;
- There is no pronounced smell or taste. The flesh of the cap is in the context of a yellowish color, and the legs are snow-white;
- spores ellipsoidal whitish;
- on the skin of the hat, as a rule, there are no residues of the bedspread, which is the very first visible difference from the poisonous fly agaric.
Where can I find Caesar in the Crimea and other habitats?
Edible fly agaric is common in countries with a warm temperate climate and subtropics. In the near abroad it can be found in the forests of Crimea, Georgia, Transcarpathia, the North Caucasus and Azerbaijan. Also lives in the forests of America, Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Germany.
Eating
The mushroom is not only edible, but also considered a delicacy. It is fried, baked, dried, and young fruiting bodies are consumed raw in salads.
When and how to collect?
For delicacies, you should go to the bright old forest areas from the beginning of summer to mid-autumn.Traditionally, it grows under an oak or chestnut, but can also be found under beech, birch, hazel or coniferous trees.
In order not to harm either yourself or nature, you must follow certain rules when collecting it:
- the fruit body cannot be cut with a knife, as the remainder of the leg can rot and destroy the entire mycelium. It is better to carefully unscrew manually, like a screw;
- You doubt that you have correctly identified the species - do not take or taste it, as this can be dangerous;
- if the summer is dry, then look for mushrooms near the trunk, if wet - at a distance from it;
- it is better not to take old fruiting bodies, as they have no taste. Be cautious to behave with the young, if the collection experience is small, it is easy to confuse with the poisonous;
- tear down the find only when all the distinguishing features of Caesar are present;
- do not treat children under 6 years old with cooked dishes with any forest delicacies.
How to distinguish from false and inedible mushrooms?
By its taste, Amanita Caesar belongs to category I, among which are saffron mushrooms, mushrooms and other best representatives of the mushroom world.
To try the delicacy, and not poison, you should know the main counterparts of edible fly agaric. While the fly agaric is small, it is easy to confuse it with a pale grebe. To identify the species, you need to cut off the hat. The edible fly agaric is yellow and the grebe is white.
The grown up Amanita caesarea becomes an external copy of the poisonous fly agaric and here, without knowledge of the differences, it can be easily confused. The main differences between the two fly agaric are presented in the table.

Caesarean mushroom, and it is precisely about it, grows in large numbers in mixed forests. In August and September I collect it on a hill near my summer house. I cook it at once, 10-15 minutes. I use broth for mushroom soup. It can be used in cooking with other mushrooms, but because of the specific taste, it is better to cook separately. I really like it when you separately fry it with onions, and then fill it with beaten eggs. It turns out a very tasty omelet with mushrooms.

And hello! You just don’t understand mushrooms.
Under the terrible Soviet rule in the military town of Liepaja among the pines, raincoats grew everywhere earlier than other mushrooms. Gathered on the way home to Tosmar in a cap. Lived and enjoyed life. I enjoy life now, but the raincoats quietly disappeared: perestroika and democracy are not good for the mushrooms.
Have you seen forest champignon? It will scare you even more. But in fact, a delicious mushroom, except that it will yield to boletus.
I also had occasion to find local truffles. Well, if you find, in life you will not eat by sight.
very tasty seaside
