2.03.2018 Tomatoes

The variety got such an interesting name because it prefers a large amount of moisture. This tomato is characterized by not tall bushes and juicy fruits. The variety was obtained as a result of the work of Russian breeders. Tomatoes have a healing effect. This variety has found its application for baby food.

The value of the fruit is that it contains a large amount of beta-carotene, and this substance is of great benefit to our body.

Tomato Characteristics

Bushes have a standard form, undersized. The height of the plant is 55-70 cm. Although when grown in a film greenhouse, some specimens can reach 1 m. There are not many leaves on the bushes and they have a rich green tint. The plant does not need to be tied up and stepsoned.

This variety is also undemanding to temperature indicators and can grow even in regions with a rather cold climate.

Suitable for growing in greenhouse conditions and in open beds. The variety is resistant to late blight, as well as other diseases affecting tomatoes. All thanks to the high immunity of tomato. For the cultivation of Duckling, high-fertile soil should be chosen.

Fruit Characteristics

Tomatoes of this variety have an oval shape with a small spout on the edge. From a distance, they whisk away a heart. The average fruit mass is 60-85 g. They are used both for fresh consumption and for whole salting. The fruits are perfectly transported even at considerable distances, while not losing their external characteristics. Also, tomatoes of this variety are perfectly stored.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety:

  • compact bush. Due to this feature, the Duckling does not take up too much space, but at the same time, it has excellent productivity indicators;
  • friendly ripening of fruits;
  • tomatoes are used for medicinal purposes;
  • has excellent immunity, due to which it is resistant to diseases affecting tomatoes;
  • In addition to abundant and frequent watering, it is not demanding to care, thanks to this, even beginners will be able to grow healthy tomatoes.

Of the shortcomings, we can only note that the plant does not give too high a yield from the bush.

Sowing seeds for seedlings

Sowing seeds for seedlings should be in early April. First you need to prepare the soil. To do this, fertilizer can be added to the soil from the garden. Grains are planted to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. Then the box should be covered with a film to leave so, until the first shoots appear.

After that, the boxes are transferred to the lightest window sill, or they produce additional illumination with the help of lamps.

Important! Even the smallest drafts can destroy delicate sprouts, as the soil in the tanks cools excessively.

Also, no need to transfuse seedlings. Even if the topsoil is dry, it can be quite moist inside the tank.

Even if the sun shines brightly, you should not excessively moisten the soil. This is because the sun will hide in the evening, and the young shoots will remain in the cold and moisture all night.

It is important to remember that watering should be moderate. The first watering of seedlings is carried out after approximately seven days.

Do not forget about the drainage holes at the bottom of the tank.

Important! Water the tomatoes with warm sludge.

When the first true leaves appear on plants, a pick is performed. Tomatoes should be transplanted into a more spacious container, preferably a separate one. This will help the plants grow stronger and gain strength.

Fertilizer seedlings

The first feeding is carried out 2-3 weeks after the appearance of the first sprouts, and the next - every seven days. The feeding schedule should be made individually. It all depends on the quality of the soil used.

Advice! An alternative option for feeding can be a peat tablet. It not only enriches the soil with nutrients, but also provides additional soil permeability, which positively affects the formation of the root system.

If seedling care is carried out correctly, then by the end of the second week, you will get a strong, stocky, bright green plant.

Plants are planted in open beds in mid-June. Care for the duckling consists in timely abundant watering, loosening the soil and releasing the beds from weeds and pests. The plant is resistant to all diseases, but, despite this, the soil should be treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

The duckling is an early ripe variety; its first crop is harvested already 101 days after the emergence of sprouts.

Attention! Tomato is extremely important generous watering during the flowering period. Otherwise, this may lead to a decrease in yield.

Probable problems

Despite all the positive characteristics, some difficulties may appear when growing this variety. This is because each gardener has his own way of planting plants, as well as each plot has its own soil composition.

Shedding color and ovary can be one of these problems. When grown in a greenhouse, this may be due to a lack of ventilation.

To eliminate this reason, you should open the doors and windows in the greenhouse immediately after watering.

Summing up, we can say the following: this variety has proven itself and therefore has become very famous among gardeners. The kids really like the fruits, and thanks to their yellow color, they look great in the winter in the bank.

Olga, 61 years old

First met Duckling in 2009. Landed in an open garden under banks. In addition, she covered the seedlings with film. For a day I cleaned both the film and the cans. And in mid-May, snow suddenly fell. Therefore, she did not remove the film. But the blown wind opened my greenhouse, and some bushes froze. But, despite this, he gave stepsons and pleased with fruiting. In general, I liked the duckling.
