The birthplace of the variety is the Republic of Moldova. In 1975, a team of scientists from the Moldavian Institute for Viticulture and Winemaking was engaged in grape breeding. As a result of the crossing of two varieties “Koarne Nyagre” and “Pierrell”, a new table variety of black grapes was bred. The name of the variety was dedicated to the memory of the great scientist Alexander Negrul.
