How to care for an apple tree in spring, so that there is a good harvest

As soon as the snow has melted in the garden, by the end of March, spring troubles begin at gardeners, and first of all fruit trees need our close attention. Let's look at how to care for an apple tree in spring so that there is a good harvest. Yes, in the spring the future crop is laid, and the quality / quantity of the crop will depend on how we prepare our trees.

Pruning

Having gone out into the garden and armed with clippers and a small saw, we begin the inspection of the trees. All branches that look inside the crown, or parallel to the sky rush up - ruthlessly remove, branches that are directed to the sides with a downward slope - also remove. Even if there is a crop on them, they will break off under its weight. If the apple tree is more than 6 years old - we remove the tops, as if we cut off all the outgoing trifle, which will not yield a crop, and will drink the juices from the tree. And from a less tall tree, harvest is much easier to harvest.

We treat bark and slices

After cutting, the wounds remain on the trees, into which all kinds of pests are immediately ready to rush, therefore they need to be greased with “green”, that is, garden var. It is easy to prepare it yourself, so it’s better to work a bit than buy a store, with all kinds of harmful additives.

Garden var can thus be prepared:

10 parts of wood resin on a low light slowly warm up so that it becomes liquid, add 4 parts of turpentine, mix everything with a stick, and add 3 more parts of pork fat. Mix everything, and the garden var, useful without chemistry, is ready, you can treat twigs, cuts, peeling bark, peel and process with our home-made var.

Fertilizer apple trees in spring

In spring, each tree needs to be fed. After removing the weeds, loosen carefully, trying not to touch the roots, under the trees, make small grooves and fertilize there. It is good to use boric acid, using it in 2g / 1l of water, or copper sulfate in the same ratio, manure, diluting one part with ten parts of water, or bird droppings, diluting 1 part with about fifteen parts of water. Also suitable for feeding ash, use 1 glass per liter. As fertilizer is applied, rake the grooves.

Watering

When the spring is wet, water can be watered after flowering begins, in large quantities, so that the water passes well to the roots, but when the spring is dry, watering is necessary immediately before buds open. Further watering does not continue often, but plentifully.

Pest treatment

The care for our apple trees does not end there, you still need to treat them from pests, otherwise you will not have time to look around, as any small dirty trick will attack our trees, and begin to eat them. For processing, Inta-Vir and Fury preparations will do, copper chloride and Strobi have proven themselves well.
