When to plant?
They can be grown by planting immediately in open ground or in seedlings. If you grow Marigold seedlings, you can admire the flowers from April or early June, depending on the sowing date. If you correctly calculate the timing of planting seeds, this makes it possible that the flowers will begin to bloom earlier and more beautiful.
Sowing seeds
Depending on the region and climate, seeds are sown at different times. Each person involved in flower cultivation can calculate the timing of the start of sowing work. Seedlings can be planted in the soil at 60 days of age, but by this time the threat of night frost should pass, and the soil should warm up well after a long winter. If you plan to plant seedlings earlier, it is recommended to use a film shelter. The result depends on compliance with the landing recommendations. Proven material in combination with care give a guarantee of obtaining powerful seedlings.
Seedlings can be grown both in boxes and in separate containers, it all depends on its quantity. But it should be noted that when planting seeds in common containers in the subsequent plants, it will be necessary to dive, which takes additional time. No matter what the capacity, it should be equipped with an opening so that excess water flows out to the bottom of the paper, and a drainage layer of about 3 centimeters is placed on top. To do this, you can use sand, gravel, expanded clay or perlite.
How to make the soil for marigold yourself?
These flowers love nutritious, light and loose soil. It, of course, can be purchased, but to be sure of the quality you can make it yourself, you will need:
- Sand.
- Peat.
- Humus.
- Fertile soil.
Take everything except the soil in equal parts, and 2 times more soil, then mix thoroughly and pour with a warm manganese solution. After this mixture, it is recommended to calcine in the oven at a temperature of 100 degrees, but not higher, otherwise a high temperature can destroy all nutrients. The disinfected soil-mixture is poured into the container for planting and after 3 days it is already possible to sow the seeds.
How to prepare the seeds?
Seeds for planting can be purchased at a specialized floriculture store or collected by yourself. You can collect them yourself one and a half months after the beginning of flowering, closer to the beginning of autumn. By this time, the bud and peduncle turn yellow, fully ripe seeds are quite easy to get from the cup. Harvested seeds are well dried to a loose state and put in a bag of paper or fabric before the onset of the sowing season. They retain their germination capacity up to three years. Before planting for early germination, they are moistened with water, and then wrapped in cotton or a bag of polyethylene and the seeds are placed in a well-lit place for three days. After that they need to be processed with Zircon.
Sowing seeds for seedlings
Furrows are made on the soil, the distance between them should be at least 3 centimeters. Marigolds have rather large seeds, when sowing this must be taken into account. The distance between the planted seeds is left at 2 cm. Then, the grooves are sprinkled with a mixture of earth and sand in a ratio of 1: 1, you can also add a little ash to it, which will protect the seedlings from the appearance of black skin. After planting, the seeds can be poured with warm water, using a spray gun and covered with a film. The capacity must be placed in a warm place, the optimum temperature is 23-25 degrees. Before sprouts appear, and this usually happens from 4 to 7 days, the film is removed once a day, in order to ventilate. It is watered when the earth begins to dry out, it’s not worth zealous, this can lead to the death of young plants.
Important! If planting seeds for seedlings is carried out in the winter, seedlings must be illuminated 3 hours a day, using a fluorescent lamp. They place it at a distance of 10 centimeters from the container with seedlings, otherwise it will simply stretch out and become unsuitable for planting.
