In the open ground, crops are harvested in the south of the Russian Federation and in the middle lane. Variety "Swallow" can be grown in greenhouse conditions, except in the Far North.

The plant is characterized by:

  • mid-ripeness, that is, the fruits ripen in 115-120 days after the first sprouts appear, and seed collection is possible on 135-150 days;
  • the possibility of growing in open ground, although higher productivity in greenhouse conditions and southern areas;
  • 5-6 kg of wonderful vegetables can be collected from each square meter of the plot;
  • medium height, that is, bushes can grow to half a meter height, in greenhouses the height often reaches a mark of 60 cm.
  • stamped, semi-spreading form;
  • compact sizes;
  • resistance to the negative effects of various diseases;
  • ability to adapt in any weather conditions;
  • unpretentiousness and universality;
  • ripening of fruits occurs in unison, that is, at the same time.
Note! In order for the plants not to break under the weight of the fruit, you should tie the bushes.

The shape of the fruit is conical, slightly oval. The length of each peppercorn is from 8 to 11 cm and weighs from 65 to 100 g. The color of the fruit is light green and red, and the taste is sweet and fleshy with a wall thickness of 5 to 7 mm.

Harvest can be used both fresh and canned. Fruits can be transported at various distances without losing their presentable appearance. In addition, they can be stored for a long period.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Pepper varieties "Swallow" has several advantages, due to which many gardeners choose it for planting on their sites:

  • the fruits may lie for a long time after removal from the bush;
  • plants are resistant to a variety of diseases;
  • the culture is quite unpretentious in care;
  • high productivity, the value of which is not able to influence weather conditions;
  • easily adapts to changing weather conditions.

But the variety is also characterized by some negative points:

  • if the planting is dense, then the yield decreases sharply;
  • if the bush is short, the fruits are often located on the surface of the earth and rot.
Tip: to prevent rotting of peppercorns, you should lay mulch on the ground around them.

Planting plants

Sow seeds for seedlings begin in February.Having selected the seeds for sowing, it is necessary to disinfect them by placing them in potassium permanganate diluted in water. In addition, the seeds can be soaked in herbal remedies. Their role is often played by juice squeezed from an agave. You can also use Epins-extre or Kemira. After disinfection, the seeds are scattered on gauze, previously moistened in water, and then put in a warm place.

While the seeds are pecking, you should start preparing boxes or peat pots, which then fill the soil. You can buy it in a store or make it yourself by mixing the earth with humus. Before planting, the soil is necessarily steamed or heated in the oven.

When sowing seeds in one container, they should be decomposed sequentially, departing from each by 1.5-2 mm. Seeds on top are sprinkled with earth at 8-10 mm. Then you should carefully pour the earth in a box or a pot, and then cover with polyethylene or glass. Prepared containers must be stored in a warm and bright place, observing an air temperature of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. After the first shoots, the glass or film is removed.

Important! Check the ground for moisture. If the earth is oversaturated or lacks moisture, this can lead to the death of the plant. Watering should be carried out using a spray gun. This will help prevent seed decay.

When 2-3 leaves appeared, you should dive the seedlings, that is, make sure that each of the plants grows in its capacity. Fertilize for the first time after the appearance of 4-5 leaves on the stem.

Before planting, sprouts are quenched in 2 weeks. To do this, the box is taken out to the balcony or porch.

Tip. At first, the hardening time can be small, equal to 2-3 hours. Then the pepper can remain for hardening during the day, it should be brought in only at night.

Landing at a permanent place

The grown bushes are planted in a permanent place in late spring - early summer. For planting, choose a site that was previously reserved for cabbage, pumpkin, cucumbers, beets, carrots, onions or beans, it is unacceptable to use the site on which the beans grew.

It’s not worthwhile to choose sites where solanaceous crops were previously planted. They have similar diseases, and they are also loved by the same species of insect pests. In particular, it is not recommended to plant pepper in areas after eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes. Digging of the earth is carried out in the fall, before that it should be fertilized. The second time the earth is dug in the spring.

Planting seedlings is carried out in specially dug holes, between which 40 cm should be retreated. Between the rows of planting, a 60-centimeter distance is necessary. Before starting planting, each of the holes is filled up to half with nutrient soil. Then you should put the plant in a hole, carefully spreading the root system and filling it with nutritious soil. After this, the seedlings are carefully watered and knitted to pegs driven into the ground before planting.

Important! It should be ensured that after planting, the root portion is above the ground.

Productivity Tips

To obtain the maximum yield, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Pegs should be driven in before plants are planted. This prevents the risk of root damage.
  2. If the summer is rainy, then it is necessary to cover the bushes with polyethylene, which will prevent the plant from decaying.
  3. To increase the yield, it is necessary to get rid of the first flowers.
  4. Peppers are harvested for the first time upon maturation, and then as a result of actual maturity.
  5. So that the fruits are free of bitterness, do not plant “Swallow” peppers with bitter varieties.
Important! When the ripened fruits are cut off from the plant, the remaining ones will grow faster and become tastier.
