10.01.2018 Pepper

Variety Merchant is a fairly common representative of sweet pepper and is grown both in open ground and in greenhouse conditions. This variety differs from others in its pronounced taste of Bulgarian summer pepper.

Characteristics and description of the variety

With the help of breeders, many varieties of bell pepper have been bred and each gardener can choose the type of pepper that suits his taste, paying attention to the region for which a particular variety is zoned.

Productivity

Grade Merchant, even with a cold and cloudy summer, still gives 3 kg of crop per square meter. But under good conditions and proper cultivation, the variety is able to produce 5.5 kg from the same meter.

Height, plant weight, color, shape

Bushes of this species grow in stems, and their height is 85 cm. The fruits are located on the drooping stalks, large size. The mass of a single pepper is 100 g., The fruit is pyramidal. In technical maturity, the fruits are painted in a light green hue, and when fully ripened, the pepper becomes red. The wall of the fetus has a thickness of 8 mm, while the juicy, aroma-filled pulp contains a large number of different vitamins.

Ripening speed

To fully ripen the fruits of the Kupets variety, 112 days are necessary from the moment of seed germination. It is believed that this is a mid-early variety, but due to the cold summer, the period can move up to 120 days.

Seedling planting dates

The terms for planting seeds in the ground are standard - the end of February and the beginning of March. In March, the southern regions of Russia are planted, and the northern ones in February. If there is shelter or a greenhouse, the seeds are planted 2 weeks earlier.

Features of cultivation and care of the variety

When planting seeds, you must have:

  1. Seeds of this variety, purchased in a specialized store from trusted manufacturers. This will guarantee that upon receipt of the harvest the fruits will grow the variety that was planted.
  2. Tanks with drainage holes so that excess water drains through them, and does not stagnate at the bottom of the tank.
  3. Nutritious and loose soil, which is purchased in a store or made up at home. To make the soil for seedlings, all parts are taken in equal proportions:
  • turf land;
  • land from the garden;
  • peat or sand;
  • humus.
IMPORTANT! All parts are thoroughly mixed and knead with your hands without leaving even small lumps of earth. After that, it is required to disinfect the earth, calcining it in the spirit of the closet for 2 hours at a temperature of 200 degrees.

Before planting seedlings grown with one's own hand in open ground or a greenhouse, it is hardened for 10 days to accustom to open ground conditions.

Peppers can be planted in greenhouses without heating starting on May 15, and in the southern regions, depending on the spring temperature, they begin to be planted in early May. When planting seedlings in a greenhouse, a planting scheme of 60 by 40 cm is used, 45 by 45 cm are planted in open ground.

At the same time, the soil reserved for planting bushes of sweet bell pepper must be fertile. Therefore, during the autumn digging, it is worth adding fresh manure. If this was not done in the fall, then during planting seedlings two handfuls of rotted manure and a handful of wood ash are added to each well.

IMPORTANT! The manure must be rotted, otherwise the root system of the plant will burn.

Sweet pepper Merchant prefers:

  • during irrigation, warm, settled water;
  • irrigation regularity;
  • loosening row spacing and simultaneous removal of weed grass;
  • timely top dressing of pepper bushes with fertilizers that correspond to the stages of bush development:
    • when planting seedlings, nitrogen-containing top dressings are used;
    • at the beginning of flowering and fruiting, it is necessary to start a fertilizer containing phosphorus and potassium, this will give strength to the bush of pepper, and it will give a larger crop;
IMPORTANT! Fulfill all these requirements and then the harvest will be large.

Reviews of those who planted

Michael

The second year I plant this pepper and always with a good harvest. Since pepper is not afraid of not cooling and not sustainable heat. The fruits are medium sized and tasty.

I have been growing this variety for many years and always with a good harvest of tasty and fleshy fruits. I plant many different varieties on my site, but this one is planted annually, as it never fails and gives a consistently good crop.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

This variety has remarkable positive qualities:

  • tolerates cold snap and hot season;
  • consistently rich harvest;
  • presentation of the fruit;
  • large-fruited;
  • the variety is resistant to diseases and pests.

Based on the feedback of gardeners, negative qualities were not identified.

The main purpose of the variety

Since pepper has a large amount of sugars and vitamins, its main purpose is to eat in fresh summer salads. But also it is suitable for manufacturing:

  • winter preservation;
  • stuffings with various components from minced meat to vegetable components.

What regions are grown

This variety is zoned for the northern regions of Russia, such as Siberia and the Urals. In their conditions of short and cool summers, this pepper gives good harvests of salable fruit.

Despite the fact that the variety was bred for the northern regions, it is also successfully cultivated in the southern regions, as it easily tolerates cold snap and drought, if they are not long.

Resistance to disease and adverse conditions

This variety has established itself as a holder of good immunity to various fungal diseases. But this does not cancel the weekly examinations for the presence of various deviations from normal growth and the identification of harmful insects.

It is good for the sake of disease prevention to also maintain the planting pattern and process the bell pepper bushes with folk methods. If infection of the bush is noticed, then it is carefully removed from the bed with a lump of land and destroyed outside the site so as not to infect the ground in the garden.

IMPORTANT! Periodically inspect the bushes for harmful insects.

Storage rules

First of all, pepper is sent for storage in technical maturity and without visible external mechanical damage. It must be remembered that the temperature at the place of storage should not exceed 12 degrees of heat, otherwise irreversible decay processes will begin in the fruits of pepper. The air humidity should be 90%. If all these requirements are met, then the Merchant variety can be saved until the New Year.

Therefore, you can store:

  1. in the refrigerator in a special plastic container with openings for oxygen access.
  2. in the refrigerator in the vegetable box, shifting each layer of pepper fruit with paper.
  3. You can try to dig out a bush of pepper and transplant it into a bucket and, in this form, bring it into a warm room to extend its growing season.

With proper care, the variety of bell pepper Merchant will tie fruit in any weather, which means that the gardener will not remain without a crop.
