The owners of summer cottages often try to save land and choose weaving varieties of plants for their garden. In conditions of a small land allotment, it does not work out otherwise! That is why it is customary to plant weaving beans along the fences, and grow cucumbers in barrels: thus, gardeners use each piece of land “for business”. In addition, oriental plants with huge fruits became popular among summer residents: lagenaria, Chinese cucumber, Titan pumpkin. We will tell you what is the cultivation of cowpea (Chinese beans) in a summer cottage. This is a weaving bean crop, the bush of which reaches 2 m in height and bears fruit with very long asparagus bean pods, the length of which is from 40 to 50 cm.
If legumes grow well on your land, try growing wigna: the plant develops very quickly, and the fruits can be used like ordinary asparagus beans (for cooking first courses, scrambled eggs and stewed vegetable goodies). At the same time, the plant, like all legumes, easily tolerates irregular watering and even drought. What is needed for gardeners who are not able to live in the country all week!
What land is needed to grow Chinese cowpea?
This plant is suitable for light soils that are not too oxidized and not too filled with clay. The ideal option is black soil or sandy loam soil. In other words, it is better for legumes and wigna itself - drier ground than too moist.
It is not necessary for Chinese beans to specially fertilize the earth in order to improve its nutritional composition: this plant can bear fruit almost in the sand. In addition, the cowpea tops itself is a very good green manure: after fruiting it can be dug in the garden, and the next year to get improved land for precipitation of nightshade and cabbage crops.
Preparing Wigns for Landing
Wigna beans are small and black. Like any other leguminous plants, they need to be pre-soaked overnight - after this procedure, they increase the chances of germination. Without soaking it is possible to plant a sign only in moist soil in the middle of May. In general, this plant can be planted until the end of June. But at the same time, you must first wet the bed with water.
How to Grow Vegetable Whig (Chinese Beans)
1. Dig a bed if you did not do this in the fall. Level the soil with a rake, and then use a hoe or other convenient tool to make a groove up to 4 cm deep on the garden bed. If the ground is wet, you do not need to water it additionally. If the soil is dry, fill the groove with water from the watering can and wait until the liquid is absorbed into the ground. Then spread the beans in the furrow at a distance of 7-10 cm from each other. Cover them with a layer of moist earth, and sprinkle dry earth on top so that the soil holds moisture longer and allows the beans to sprout.
2. In favorable conditions, the vigna grows very quickly - in a week. Two weeks after planting, you will already see bushes of Chinese beans with leaves.
3. This bean crop does not need strong watering, so it can be watered with water from a watering can once every few days. Without water, the plant will tolerate well 10 days, and even more, although during flowering and the formation of pods, you still need to organize regular watering (every 2-3 days). A signal is a winding culture, therefore, as it develops, it will begin to throw out “legs” that need to be hooked onto a support.Wignu can be grown near a fence made of netting netting or a garden net can be installed on supports, but the simplest solution is to dig columns (long sticks or special garden supports with a rough cover) near Chinese bean bushes.
4. You can also let the lamb about the trees. To do this, dig the support-stick so that its upper edge is under a tree branch. When the signal is braided to the top of the support, it itself will catch on the tree.
5. When the plants reach their highest “growth”, they will begin to bloom. Vigna flowers are similar to bean flowers - they are light and bivalve.
6. After the flowers dry and fall off, thin ovaries of pods will appear in their place.
7. Pods of Chinese beans develop very quickly: literally in a week you will receive full-fledged fruits 40 cm long! However, the pods must be carefully observed: at their base, ants like to “graze” aphids. If this does not harm the fruit, you can do nothing, and if the pods fall off due to insects and have not grown, it is worth sprinkling the fruits of the wigna with crushed ash.

Sometimes pods of cowpea grow so fast that flowers do not have time to fall off their tips. So do not miss the moment of harvesting: this string bean is suitable for food only when the pods themselves have not yet become coarser. If the signal has already outgrown, you can leave its pods to dry completely to get planting material for next year.
It’s very easy to grow wigna, and most importantly it’s nice, because Chinese beans bring a generous harvest.
