Seedling growing system with drainage irrigationIt is necessary to prepare for the summer season from early spring. Already in March, many gardeners begin to germinate seedlings. In this description, you will learn how to create a device for growing the most capricious seedlings from a simple plastic bottle.

To work, you need:

  1. One plastic bottle of any size.
  2. A sharp clerical knife.
  3. Marker or pencil drawing on glass.
  4. Gauze bandage.
  5. Scissors.
  6. Soil or sand.
  7. Water.
  8. Seeds or bulbs of plants.

How to create a system for growing seedlings with drainage irrigation:

Each type of plant requires its own conditions for germination. Some plants like to deepen the roots, they need a larger bottle, for others the root system grows close to the surface of the earth, for these species a small enough capacity.

The first step is to cut off part of the bottle from the bottom. It is better to cut off about 2/3 of the bottle, in the future, if the pallet is deep, it can be reduced, but to increase the height will be quite problematic and the work will have to be redone.

Mark the cut with a marker. Cut Bottom part

Cut a portion of a suitable size from the neck of the bottle. Calculating the size is quite simple - the depth of the soil (depending on the type of plant that you will grow), plus 2-3 cm to the edges. The walls of the bottle should rise above the ground at this distance for watering and loosening.

Cut off the top of the neck

If you use a small bottle, cut off the throat in the place where it expands as much as possible. If the diameter of the cut part of the throat is less than the diameter of the pallet, the system will not work, the upper part will simply fall into the bottom.

Turn the top part with your throat down and try on it to the main part. The gap between the bottom and neck of the bottle should be about 5 cm, if it is larger, then slightly reduce the height of the base.

Try on

Pass a bandage into the throat of the bottle, it will hang down to the bottom of the second part and play the role of drainage, through which water will enter the ground.

Pass the bandage

Unwind another 30-40 cm from the bandage and ram it tightly into the neck of the bottle so that the earth does not pour into the bottom of the system through this hole.

Put the bandage in the neck

Pour soil, sand, or sawdust into the top of the fixture. The choice of "soil" depends on the type of seeds that you want to grow, so focus on recommendations for planting a particular plant.

Pour soil

Pour half a glass of water into the system, the soil should be saturated with moisture for a while. Pour water into the bottom of the system to the neck level. Thanks to the inserted gauze bandage, water will flow into the ground and further nourish the roots of seedlings.

Pour water

Then plant the seeds in the prepared system. If the crops are very capricious, then you can fertilize the prepared soil with special mixtures.
