Greenhouse made of plastic bottles

2.01.2019 Construction

Gardeners, summer residents are unique people. They in the arrangement of the garden can use any materials that catch their eye. If we take into account the well-known plastic bottle, then you wonder what craftsmen make of it. They decorate their front gardens with flowers, animals. All this made of simple plastic. This material is considered one of the cheapest, affordable, safe. It’s easy to work with. From it you can build various designs. For example, a greenhouse.

We will provide you with a detailed, step-by-step guide for self-assembly of a greenhouse made of plastic containers. Say one thing, this will require a lot of building material, so start stocking them today.

Advantages

A large number of building materials. There are gardeners who choose finished designs. After all, you do not need to spend time and energy on their construction. But plastic has incomparable advantages in comparison with other covering materials.

  1. Strength is very high. The polyethylene film, which is used in most cases as a covering agent, is fragile and delicate in comparison with plastic. Bottle walls will calmly withstand the pressure of snow, strong gusts of wind, exposure to sunlight.
  2. It perfectly transmits sunlight, which is so necessary for normal plant growth. Due to the fact that this building material has an additional volume, it scatters the sun's rays. This has a beneficial effect on seedlings.
  3. They have heat-insulating properties, as they have a cavity that is filled with air.
  4. The price of this building material is low.
  5. When collecting containers, related materials for construction, you will clean the environment. The material is easy to process.
  6. In order to build a greenhouse out of plastic bottles, you don’t need sophisticated tools and engineering skills. It can be built by a child.

The only thing that can scare is the amount of packaging that is required for construction. Of course, it all depends on the size, but at least 650 pieces will be required. On average, about 1500-2000 pieces are spent.

Important!
Before using plastic containers, it must be thoroughly washed and all labels removed.

The pros and cons of a bottle greenhouse

A greenhouse built of plastic containers has many distinctive characteristics compared to other covering materials.

The design is strong and durable. Compared with the same plastic film, plastic is 35 times stronger than it. Excellent heat retention. It does not need additional heating. It is worth taking into account what region of the country you live in and what climate it has. The design has a small mass. Bottles are lightweight building material. Perfectly protect plants from strong winds, hail, showers.

Bottle selection and preparation

For the construction of a greenhouse, it is necessary to choose a container identical in size and external characteristics. It is excellent if you use 2 liter bottles, but also one and a half bottles are suitable for installation.

You can choose any container in volume, but the larger it is, the thicker the walls of the future building will be. Accordingly, the thermal insulation characteristics of the structure increase.

Greenhouse design selection

Each gardener can choose the design that he considers optimal for construction. Bottle greenhouses are of two types:

  1. Consists of full bottles. The bottom is removed. Between themselves, the containers are connected using fishing line and mounts that are on the base.
  2. It consists of a web that is created by stitching rectangles. They are cut out of plastic containers. For the construction of this type, materials are used a couple of times less, but the thermal insulation decreases many times.

What type of preference you decide.

Materials for the frame

You may be interested in:
For the construction of the supporting part, any building material is suitable. You can choose a metal base, wooden or plastic.

  1. The metal frame makes the greenhouse stronger and more durable. To prevent rust, paint the metal structure in time.
  2. Wood. This is an affordable building material. It is easy to install. The main thing is to treat it with rot and insect repellents.
  3. Plastic pipes. They are light in weight. Thanks to their flexibility, you can create any shape. Requires reinforcement to withstand the weather.

Equipment and materials

To ensure that the construction of the plastic greenhouse does not cause difficulties, the following building materials will be required:

  • a bottle of plastic from 650 to 2,500 pieces;
  • timber or boards 3 and 4 meters long in the amount of two pieces of each type;
  • rail for installation, the amount is calculated based on the design calculation.

Equipment necessary for construction:

  1. Stationery knife or cutter.
  2. The awl is thin. Hammer.
  3. Materials for fixing (nail, self-tapping screw).
  4. Measuring device.
  5. Building level.

Plastic greenhouse

The process of creating the canvas is based on cutting out the bottles from the core. That is, cut off the neck and bottom of the container. The cylinder that turned out, cut perpendicular to the floor in one place. You should get a rectangle. Also do with all the containers you use to build the greenhouse.

Advice!
To straighten the resulting building material, place the rectangles under the press. By the end of the process you will have even “bricks”.

Walls

The second step is to stitch the plates together. To do this, use the “whip” technique and sewing equipment. For flashing, take the thread from the capron. For a stronger connection, create thin strips of rectangles. They should be in the same direction.

As for the bands. They should be identical in length to the height of the structure. Do not forget to leave a stock of about 30 centimeters. It will be needed for the hem.

After all the strips sew in one fabric. The width of the canvas should correspond to the width of one wall of the frame of the greenhouse. But you can make an integral coating so that you can wrap the entire base around the perimeter.

Roof

It can be made for the greenhouse, also from plastic containers. Actions are performed in order:

  1. Cut the neck and bottom of the bottle.
  2. The cylinder is cut into two parts.
  3. Fasten the pieces together. It should be a wave.
  4. The roof is installed after the foundation is built and the walls of the greenhouse are installed.

Frame

To build the base of the greenhouse, it is necessary to lay the foundation. Since the building material and associated elements are lightweight, a shallow strip foundation is suitable for this. Inside place old car tires. They are sprinkled to the middle with earth and covered with pebbles or gravel. For wooden supports during the construction of the foundation, deepenings of 55-65 centimeters are dug. Strengthen the posts with strapping material. Fix them with a screwdriver and screws.

Now proceed to the installation of the doorway and windows. After they process the wooden elements of the greenhouse with special tools that protect against rot and insects.

Frame cladding

In order for the process to go faster, they take an assistant. Fasten the plastic web to the frame using thin rails and screws. The cover material should stretch well.

Important!
The canvas of plastic bottles is pulled slightly. Otherwise, it may become very deformed.

After gluing the joints with construction tape or glue. The free 30 centimeters that were originally provided for the allowance are bent around the yoke on top of the frame and secured from the inside. From below, the canvas is attached to the foundation.

Full Bottle Greenhouse

This type of greenhouse has enhanced thermal insulation properties, as hollow bottle elements are used in construction. They retain in themselves air, which ensures the preservation of heat and helps diffuse sunlight. The greenhouse is made of solid plastic containers in stages:

  1. The light weight of the whole structure makes it easier foundation building. To do this, you can use cinder blocks, bricks, logs or timber.
  2. Before building the base of the greenhouse, interconnect the boards, the size of which is 7 by 10 centimeters. You should get a rectangle. After they attach supporting vertical beams to them. Between them there should be a distance equal to 1-1.5 meters. Now the building is assembled to the roof and fixed in the center with a beam. The distance from the foundation is about 2 meters. This strengthens the greenhouse and makes it more durable.
  3. To collect the base, take a saw, hammer and nails.
  4. The frame of the greenhouse is assembled. Proceed with the installation of the walls of plastic bottles.
  5. The bottom of each bottle is removed using an office knife or cutter. This is necessary so that the container is worn tightly on each other. So, do with all plastic containers.
  6. On the thread of kapron set the bottle - the base. This is the only tank that has a bottom. The top of her, on the contrary, is cut off. This is necessary in order to attach it to the frame. After stringing the bottles on top of each other. You should have solid posts.
  7. For the bundle between the bottles use the same kapron thread.
  8. To ensure that the structure is even and does not dance, pull a thread between the two supports to fix it or nail a rail made of wood.
  9. After they fix the resulting columns at the top on the side frame. They should be level and well stretched.
  10. The roof is mounted identically to the side walls. In the case of choosing the installation of a gable roof, two rectangles and two triangles are made that connect together. After collecting, they install the roof on the walls and firmly fix it to the frame of the greenhouse.
  11. In order to avoid sagging bottle columns, they are placed as densely as possible to each other. Between them they are glued with liquid nails.
  12. As for the doors. They will also be made of plastic containers. Make the base of the doorway and pull on them columns of plastic bottles. The construction is assembled as in the case of the walls and roof of the greenhouse. After they attach the door hinges and put the doors in their place.
  13. A greenhouse made of hollow plastic bottles is ready. It remains to equip the ridges with nutritious soil inside and plant cultivated plants.
Important!
The neck of the previous plastic bottle should be tightly installed from the bottom of the next container.

Useful Tips

Additional recommendations for a new building to appear on your site - a greenhouse made of plastic bottles:

  1. If you have not accumulated enough building material, then it's time to start making friends with neighbors. Ask them for some plastic bottles.
  2. It is best to start collecting containers from the last month of summer.
  3. The bonding of the plates with each other occurs not only with the help of a kapron thread. To do this, you can use the fishing line, fire.
  4. To make the structure even stronger, pull a nylon or wire net over it. You can also make a crate of metal.
  5. The roof does not have to be made of bottles. Both polyethylene and polycarbonate are perfect for this.
  6. With the doors you can do the same as with the roof.
  7. You can use bamboo sticks to string bottles. They will give the structure more strength.

A greenhouse built from plastic bottles is a great alternative to plastic wrap and polycarbonate sheets. It is endowed with all the qualities necessary for the good growth of seedlings and adult plants. Excellently keeps heat and necessary humidity. Another advantage is that the plastic perfectly scatters ultraviolet sunlight.

From plastic containers you can not only build greenhouses, but also build small greenhouses. It all depends on the capabilities of the land and your taste.

Use this material for the construction of greenhouses, and the yield of your site will increase several times. Do not rush to throw out the bottoms and bottoms of the bottles. From them you can create landscape design elements that will give personality. Make the landscape more attractive.

And all this creativity is from hopelessness and lack of money, and not from the fact that it is a great alternative to polycarbonate ... People get out as they can. We will soon see articles what wonderful material is adobe or layers of earth for building a house ...

I agree with the maestro that it is easiest to sew up with one polycarbonate and not mess around with bottles, especially with stitching. We need a time car to do all this. But I liked the greenhouse from whole bottles, because it looks nice and decorative. And it may even be more practical than polycarbonate, as it has natural ventilation through the cracks between the bottles.

but the fact that a plastic bottle gives off chlorine, and in fact we grow poison on our site, no one thinks. it’s cheaper to buy poison in the store than to do it yourself ... ..

the topic is interesting, but the labor costs are negligible, it is easier to sew with polycarbonate, but there is an option1 If young children have it, the assembly process itself is interesting, not the result!
